Character slots are on sale ATM, and I would really like be able to take advantage of the sale!

Edit: aside from seeing the obvious and unsettling state of the game on PC release day, my admitted main reason for getting a refund for the CE version I bought literally the minute it was available for console after the livestream reveal event in January - was that there were no additional character slots made available. Makes me wonder if you would have reconsidered adding even a couple more slots in exchange for the $78CAD I initially paid for Greymoor.

That's not a viable option and it is more the extreme proof that you are in need of a slot. One does not simply "delete" a character which may be fully builded, gered, with maxed mounth, bag space and professions, with achievements which unlocks rewards at vendors and so on...

Yes. Though I'd say at least 24. After I've built up every class as stamdd and magdd - I had limited pull to choose tanks and healers and it frustrates me to the end since I have so many ideas for quirky support builds.

Quite sad really that the community management can' t answer a very simple question like this.

For this and other reasons, it has no sense to debate about the "reasonable" amount of characters and we already uncovered the reasons why a 2nd account would not be a viable option as we explained how not providing more slots eventually translates in a loss for ZOS itself.
It's not a matter of "begging" it's all about making everyone perceive the inadequate current state of things so that something is done.

Apologies if my language was not clear. I have absolutely nothing against altoholics, I'm genuinely amazed by the amount of dedication some of these players including you have. That being said, I tend to disagree with adding more slots. I would guess that having more character data means it needs to be stored somewhere somehow. I don't know the technical details at all, but I would also guess that if having even more characters had no impact on game and server performance, they would add the option to have over 18. A new account possibly creates anywhere from 1-18 new characters, but adding the option for one more slot possibly generates thousands of new characters on thousands of accounts. I'd be interested to see how many characters the average account has, and even more interested in how many active characters the average account has. I won't lie, I have 8 characters created, but I play on one character all the time and the rest are effectively mules. Looking at my friend list, I also tend to see mostly the same character names, it's rare to see an account that constantly changes between more than 4-5 characters.

This thread probably leans towards those with more alts, but the state of things being inadequate seems to be a stretch for me. Judging by my previous MMO experience, 18 is already a high number of characters you can have on one account. Yes, there are probably MMOs with more character slots, you can always find a counterexample.

As much as it sounds upsetting, I think that on a macro level, altoholics who actively play all characters represent a minority. Having the option for a 19th or 20th character slot is probably not a problem of money, but rather resources and load on the game.

There is a pretty major flaw in your logic here.

You claim that "adding the option for one more slot possibly generates thousands of new characters on thousands of accounts." Then you go on to argue that only a small minority of players want new characters.

    These arguments are not compatible.

Either very few people want an additional slot, in which case the server load should be minimal. Or a significant number of people want this option, in which case ESO is throwing away money by ignoring what a significant number of players want.

Ideal number for me would be 20, enough for 1 of each gender for every race. When I started making alts my intention was one of every race, once I reached that mark I still had more themes I wanted to try so I started making them in opposite genders. I now have 15 with definite plans for 2 of my remaining slots (male dunmer and female orc). So I think 20 would keep me satisfied long-term.

Actually, the number of slots shouldn't affect server load at all - because normally everyone only plays one character at a time!

    Exactly.

The load comes from sending/receiving information and calculating stuff, not from storing an extra record with a few variables.

@THEDKEXPERIENCE i am setting at 1285CP 18 slots. I also have a second account with 12 characters none at max cp. I mostly PvP (kinda difficult to do since the servers are horrible even in campaigns with 0-1 bars), anyhow, the biggest issue I have is that I can’t share gear between two accounts (which I understand why obviously), but regardless I’m definitely not looking forward to the grind on my second account.

Myself, I do a lot of theory crafting, also while I don’t RP in the traditional sense, when I find a build that works, then it’s pretty much set in stoned and that’s it, maybe some minor adjustments per patch. I do play 2-3 different characters for at least 2-4 hours a day on my main acct, cycling through all the characters in the course of a month and getting tier 3 on all my toons in PvP.

They definitely need to up the cap for those of us who play to this sort of degree.

But before any character slots I encourage the community to be outraged at their inability to fix any of the bugs that have been plaguing the game for a number of years now.

You know, it would be nice to receive some sort of answer form the staff.

It shouldn't be something hard to do...

More slots=more people playing existing stuff with new alts.

To me it would seem a good way to spread the population and make the beginner areas more populated which, in turn, would make the game look more appealing to new mmo players trying this game out.

If they were going to add more character slots with Greymoor, they would have done so already.

You are probably not going to get an official response to this. As you see from the polls linked, this has been asked before and they didn't respond there either.

They are not intending to add any in the immediate future, but they may with future chapters. If so, it will be announced at that time.

The answer to adding character slots just to your account will be a "no".

You'll get more slots available to you when everyone else does.

Right now, they are not adding any or planning to add any. They may increase the number of slots available to everyone either through a chapter or via the crown store eventually, but not now.

No I am not but I do know that no company is going to enable something only for one client account and not make it available to all accounts.

So no they are not going to give just your account more character slots without making them available to all accounts.

Sorry this is not the answer you want but you're going to have to live with 18 character slots until ZOS decides to increase the number of possible slots for everyone.
