The crown store:
1) likely runs on it's own little server (given that it's accessible across game servers and via the website)
2) is a general commerce server, something that's used & understood by hundreds/thousands of companies worldwide
As opposed to an MMO's world servers, which are a custom mish-mash of years of patches layered on top of each other, redefining 'spaghetti code'.
