Ring of the wild hunt not as exciting as I thought it was

I did some speed checks on a test track for different combinations, for me it looks like:
- it doesn't affect sprinting speed
- it doesn't affect riding speed
- rapid maneuver doesn't combine with it

So basically, the only advantage is that in combat you can be 15 percent points faster than others and outside combat you can almost achieve sprint speed without having to spend stamina. So basically it looks like the only application seems to be in PvP - mainly battlegrounds.

Oh well.

My character does sprint faster with the ring than without. But there is a maximum speed boost cap which you will hit if you are stacking multiple sources of speed, increases past the cap will do nothing.

edit.

actually i didn't test it against a ring without Swift, so perhaps the increase I saw is only from the trait. though does seem larger than 1 piece of Swift should give.

It's best in slot for questing, farming ressources etc.

If you're out of combat, it's easy to hit movement cap in sprint with Ring of the Wild Hunt, so you wouldn't notice the bonus. Math: 45% (Ring of the Wild Hunt) + 40% (sprint) is +85% movement speed, where speed cap is +100% movement speed. If you're in medium armor, you're at speed cap with the ring

In my experience, it definitely works with sprint and major expedition and Concealed Weapon in invisibility, but I haven't downloaded an addon to test it conclusively.

You can wear it anywhere you don't need a monster set piece. But all the movement speed-intensive PvE situations probably call for a monster set. +15% movement speed would definitely help for Cloudrest crystals, vMA, and any trial that involves kiting AoE, but probably not as much as extra sustain/defense/damage from a monster set.

Maybe. I frequently aggro Mobs in my Speedy Orc Farmer. But, I can harvest the resource and run away with out getting hit in my normal gear. Since your character is "in combat" when you aggro the mobs, you lose a big chunk of speed boost. Might not be able to run away in that situation.

Farmed mine last night but haven't got too testing it yet.

Does that additional 30% speed over the all-the-time bonus of 15% not stack wth Major expedition and Gallop? So as long as I’m out of combat I will never need that?

They nerfed it since it was released.

In the first week, it combined with rapid maneuver and it was like flying on a horse.

It also seemed to sprint faster.

Now it is just like a 1pc Coward's set.

One of my stamblades runs Wild Hunt along with Darloc Brae for permacloak. Add in Concealed Weapon , all rings in golden and swift + vampire and you have 45+25+18 for +88% movement speed while cloaked. Add Rapid Maneuver or Race against time to have max movement speed while permacloaking.

It's fun as hell in PvP when I want to be annoying and somewhat worthless in actual combat, but it's also really useful when doing delve dailies in various DLC areas since it makes skipping trash mobs trivial. TG and DB is even easier.

I don't farm things but I can't imagine how one would not want to be mounted much of the time for use of the Shadowy Rider passive from DB to avoid aggroing mobs for no reason. It's why I maxed this skill line out on all 18 characters.

So I love the ring. I swap it in and out for when heading into a delve to fight etc. But I am like the flash now. This ring ROCKS!
