Armor / Damage % Reduction and how they roll in combat.

I am currently running a Vampire Templar with the following.
40K Resists w/ Rune (50% Damage Reduction)
Pirate Skeleton w/ Major Protection (30% Damage Reduction)
Cyrodil's Light 5pc (15% Damage Reduction)
Mist Form (75% Damage Reduction)

I obviously know it does not add up to 170% damage reduction but with all that stacked I am still getting hit for 2-3K at times by players.

Anyone give me some insight on this please?

If my math is right that is 92.5% mitigation. With battlespirit figured in it should be a shade over 96% from PVE values. Would indicate that the player hitting you for that would be hitting an NPC for 50-75k before their resists.

I dont know how the math exactly actually works in ESO but you probably wont have 50% dmg reduction with 40k resist because pvp players will usually have more than 8k pen.

In terms of calculation stacking percentages its:
    (1-0.50) x (1-0.30) x (1-0.15) x (1-0.75) = 7.44% dmg left
So that means 100-7.4375=92.56% dmg should be mitigated.

The 2k hit with 7.44% dmg left means that the initial hit was:
    2k / 0.0744 = 26.88k initial dmg (which is a lot in pvp)

You probably didn't have all the buffs up at those hits. They do have cooldown periods.

To be honest, as laggy as things are, I think the server "misses" dynamic player stat changes some of the time.

I though there was a cap to damage reduction...

Either way I don't notice a difference with armor on or not this patch, major protection, minor protection, etc.

It's literally roll, block, or die.

    And if mag sorc, shield.

I've never seen damage that high from a player. I've seen it get over 20k from a siege engine.

The highest I've seen is 18k from Necro Ulty, or 16k from Elemental Storm and those are crits.

That's great defense. Are you having any fun with that set up? I would think your sustain is pretty rough and your dps is pretty sup-par. At most, those types of builds are usually just troll tanks; which, are pretty excellent in certain situations.

Though, in a ball group, you would probably just be the puller with chains and slot the guard skill to support a DPS.

What you are describing is mitigated dmg on death recap for example, the initial dmg I am talking about is tooltip dmg before mitigation. Nevertheless, there are few skills that could reach such a high tooltip so the %mitigation is probably lower than the calculated value.

I actually run it as a healer.
    30K Health / 35K Magicka w/ 1200 Magicka Regen

If I get low resources, I just use Meditate from Psijic and get the 15% 5pc / 30% Major Prot bonus while doing so and if someone knocks me out of it then I get a free cast ability.

I switch around between these set ups.
    Earth Gore / Winter's Respite / Cyrodil's Light / New Moon Acolyte / Skoria.
