I'm just coming back. Last I played was before the Necro went live. Are they able to hold their own in Trial or Vets? What class role do they excel at the Most?

They are the most requested class, since they buff everyone around them. However, they are the most buggy and painful to play, especially with the recent changes to Siphon. If you don’t get easily frustrated by your skills failing to work, then playing a Necro will make you more desirable in group content. Most often used as DPS (Mag is more popular now, but I think Stam Necro is still quite powerful), although I’ve seen some great Necro healers and tanks. It’s a pretty versatile class.

They are definitely buggy. I have a few specs (stamcro is on the list) I am still working on getting Flawless conqueror with. I was in the shield stage of the stage 7 boss on monday night. I had him tab targeted. I cast blastbones, watched it take 3 steps toward the boss, make a u-turn, and kill the shield guy. It was almost too funny to be mad, almost...

Very buggy, but still can be fun to play if you can get past skills not firing, blastbones standing around doing nothing, etc.

    Buggy.
Mag Necro is weak in PvP and act as just a support class.
Stamina Necro is awesome in PvP (though nearly all stamina classes are great there)
They bring a log of buffs to the group which is good. It's also versatile. Not the best of the best but still decent, when everything works fine.
Crown Crates are a trap. Don't fall for the gamble! Balance? What Balance? Balance, smellance.
    Necro for them RP feels.

Well, to be brutally honest, Necromancer healers are the worst among all healers.
Their healing capabilities are simply not enough, no matter the set and abilities you adopt. They are strongly dependant to other trees's healing abilities to become viable in any scenario.
The same thing does not happen with any other class which, from the more obvious templar to the less intuitive dragonknight, have some degree of healing capabilities without needing help from other trees.

Bugs aside, Necros DD, both stamina and magika ones, are able to generate a dps higher than average, but still not top tier, no matter the build or gear.

Where Necros truly shine is tanking. They got a dedicated ult perfectly suited for both pvp and pve and a wide set of buffs, damage reductions and regenerations that allow a necro to be completely self sufficient in many situations while also benefiting the group form the usual passives and buffs.

Guess that explains why my healcro never have any trouble getting into a group for anything. Guess it's because its so terrible.

Read the explanation more carefully please: the kit necro healer has is not good enough on its own and it strongly relies on other abilities from other talent trees to make the necro healer viable. The same thing does not occur with other healers.
With those extra abilities surpassing your class ones in importance, you can easyly overcome your deficencies, solvethe problem, but the class healing kit remains lacking regardless. Once you diluted your necromancy core enough with some light-themed spells you become desirable enough to join a team, then adding the value that your buffs bring to the team,.

Necros work great as Ulti-Bot healers, but if you actually need healing, there are better options.

If Blastbones wasn't so buggy and fickle, it'd be pretty close to a perfect class.

They are a good class held back by poorly designed skills.

2 in particular which are also extremely important to your rotation.

    Blastbones and siphon.

What they should do? Blastbones attaches to the enemy and explodes after the time runs out, and siphon either directly attacks the target or is off the gcd and should last 16 sec in both cases.
