Speed buffs from armor sets compared

My usual running course for testing speed buffs is on Stros M'kai, the stretch of road going between the corner of a low wall between the Port Hunding wayshrine and the corner of a similar wall just that side of Saintsport. I use a digital stopwatch to record times. The starting and the stopping of the stopwatch requires me to let go of the mouse during the last couple of seconds of the sprint.

Using a combo of 5-piece Coward's Gear and 5-piece Fiord's Legacy, I got these times: 35.22 sec, 34.70 sec, 35.27 sec, 34.88 sec
The CG+FL average time is 35.02 ± 0.27

Using a combo of 5-piece Coward's Gear and 5-piece Jailbreaker, I got these times: 35.26 sec, 34.82 sec, 35.13 sec, 35.00 sec
The CG+JB average time is 35.05 ± 0.18

The two combinations give the same speed buff while sprinting, within the margins of error. However, the CG+JB combo gives a measured 8.9% buff to normal movement (it's supposed to be 10% but it isn't, quite), whereas the CG+FL combo gives no buff to speed while trotting along (i.e. not sprinting).

If you are using sprint, there can be a ramp up time that is affecting your results. Try looking at how it takes different times to get to sprint speed. Sometimes you immediately start sprinting, and sometimes it takes half a second. The easiest way to describe how sprint seems to work is like recovery. It works off of a global cooldown it feels like. Actually I am pretty sure the cowards animation will display when the "tick" happens.

On another note, sprint acts differently based on what type of terrain you are standing on. Even terrain like the front porch of keeps will act differently than uneven terrain like in between keeps(rolling grass hills).

If you play on PC, I recommend you to install ravSpeed addon to measure your character speed precisely.

Or just get the ring of the hunt and decon all your jailbreaker/Fiords. haha

I changed a Jailbreaker Necklace trait from Robust to swift, supposedly giving me a 4% speed buff. Did it?

CG+JB w 1 swift trait: 35.12 sec, 34.88 sec, 35.27 sec, 34.76 sec
Average time: 35.00 ± 0.23

The trait change apparently didn't do a damn thing.

Movement speed cap = 200
Regular movement speed = 100
Regular sprint speed = +40
7 Medium sprint speed = +21
Cowards Gear = +30
Orc sprint speed? = +10

Right there.. you're already at 191 movement speed while sprinting, hitting 200 if you're an Orc. Thats why you're not noticing much of a difference by changing out Jailbreaker or Fiords as well as trying out a Swift ring. You're hitting the cap. That also explains why you notice about a 9% increase using Jailbreaker instead of 10%, you must not be an Orc?

The only changes you can make to juice out more realistic speed is if your'e willing to go for extra movement speed over extra sprint speed which is much better since it never uses stamina and doesn't get interupted by casting skills. It's active 24/7 (unless snared obviously).

So in your current situation Jailbreaker 100% trumps Fiords simply because it gives you extra movement speed instead of sprint, but you may not need either if you're happy with sprinting as an orc..

To max out movement speed over sprint speed:

Regular movement speed = 100
Steed Mundus Stone with 7 Divines = +15
Ring of the Wild Hunt = +45
Jailbreaker = +10
3x Gold Swift Jewelry = +18

This gets you 188. To hit 200 you need Major Expedition, but Cowards is not needed since sprinting just gets you +40 anyway.

You could switch 3x Gold Swift Jewelry and Jailbreaker out and be at 160 movement speed, then just use Major Expedition and Minor Expedition from casting Charging Maneuver every 8s. Since your not sprinting, it's pretty easy to keep up and there is no delay when you cast the skill.

There is also Vamp Mag NB that can sprint for invis with +25 movement speed while in stealth from their spammable.

You are almost certainly at the speed cap. That is why the hunt ring is so nice for any type of speedy farmer type. Once you are at 200% movement speed, there is no increasing it. The ring gets you there without doing much else.

My Crafter is a Stamblade in Divines medium armor (all damage at this point).

I get:
100% base speed
15% from steed mundus with 7 divines
21% from 7 medium
2% from CP
45% Ring of the hunt

This puts me at 183% speed, only 17% left to cap. I can get there in two easy ways. I can sprint 40% or I can cast major expedition, 30%. If I do both at same time, the result is the same. I am capped. I could also run 3 swift traits and be there as well.

Once you hit 200% of cap, there is no going faster unless you mount (mount cap is 240%).

So really, the hunt ring didnt make us go faster, it actually gave us more damage because you dont need to devote armor sets to speed, you can devote them to damage.

Problem with speed stats is that they have really no place in combat anymore. Without access to longer forms of snare immunity it just isn't worth building for speed. There is no efficient path to really get speed, even with the wild hunt ring you lose a 5 piece, monster, or weapon bonus. Then on top of that in combat there are little to no sufficient forms of snare /root immunity without going 6 medium armor.

Good for farming i suppose, not much else since fluid combat has not been a thing since murkmire nerfs in response to zos wanting swift to be a thing.(which it quickly became not a thing and why nobody runs it)
