While I agree this is not the time of celebration delaying the release of Greymoor has impact, at least to me. We live in an area that Internet speeds are VERY limited and your updates get larger EVERY TIME. Not releasing the Standard edition on disk means we have to download 90Gb, at 1Gb/hr, of data, twice. I made arrangements to be at an area that I could get better bandwidth for the day of the release. Now I either have to find another source of bandwidth or wait 90+ hours times 2 to get this update.
There are unintended consequences of your actions that impact your customers. Several of your choices have impacted us, 1) Not selling the Disk version 2) in the delay of your release 3) the size of the game download.
I know I am only one person and will not affect your company one way or another but I wanted to let you know that if I am affected others might be.

So you wanted the game released on several double sided double layer DVDs when many newer PCs don't come with DVD readers anymore, and then you'd... what? Wait several days or weeks for the double sided double layered DVDs with the update to be pressed and shipped?
You don't mention that you have a PC or console, but there would have to be console versions of both releases as well, and I don't even know which consoles have the capability to read double sided double layered disks, but I'm not interested enough to even google it.

No, they don't. They're probably loading it up on multiple machines. The update isn't going to require redownloading the entire game twice for anyone. The game isn't even 90 gigs large anymore on consoles besides that.
Regardless, they really should just let players preload on large downloads like this. I'm guessing the patch will be 40 gigs tops since they improved the patching system, but that's still the better part of a day for many people.2 -

So while ZOS are respecting a dead man, they're also kind of disrespecting their customers. I don't have a problem with it, it's a minor inconvenience to me and there are worse things, like what happened. But for people like the OP, who had to plan things beforehand for the 9th release, it's not very fair.10 -

What Bungie did is not relevant to what Zos chooses to do.
It does not appear Zos' decision was arbitrary at all if it was to delay the release so it does not coincide with Mr. Floyd's funeral. It certainly was not random and it seems to have been made out of having a social conscience it is not tyrannical either. It is a serious situation and I respect Zos' choice to show respect for this man and make such a profound statement concerning the discussion in our nation and world.

We cannot preload on PC. We cannot start downloading the patch until well after maintenance has started. We have our launchers open so the update starts downloading when it is available, though that is not perfect either. The decision does not seem to be arbitrary at all. It seems to be a conscious choice of Zos to make a solid statement of support for social issues at the forefront of the USA community. That is more than my opinion as Zos seemed pretty clear about this with their statement that #BlackLivesMatter. That said this was more than about a funeral.
BTW, they have to pass patches through the consoles before they can be released except in the situations of emergency patches. So if there was an emergency update to the chapter they would have been able to bypass the red tape.2 -

I remember back in 2001, there was a new incarnation of Microsoft Flight Simulator due for release on or just after 11 Sept 01. That was delayed by one week out of respect to the victims of the September 11th attacks. MS even went as far as removing the World Trade Centre towers from that game before they released it.
Yes, it can be annoying when these things happen, especially if you’ve been looking forward to a certain date for a while. But it’s just a one day delay. I’ve had far bigger life-changing events hit me in life, and I managed to get through it, so I guess I can wait one more day.

That’s not true Sony and Xbox made changes a year and a half to two years ago allowing companies to do same day patches there’s no longer a time period of days for patch certification. Played Smite for the last 4 years and they adjusted their console patches after they made those certification changes so they could release patches for all platforms the day of and have cross platform play. And yea delaying the patch because of his death is silly tbh. Raise money for the cause do something but just delaying a patch for his memory is just signaling of the highest order.4 -

This is really an entirely unrelated and very hugely different set of events, the fact is that was an attack on America, ZoS is literally delaying a download, already paid planned and set into motion. Funny how they are not shutting down the servers worldwide, including PC, nor are they shutting down the crown store heaven forbid. And do not bring about the BLM movement as they arent doing a damn thing about that, in fact it is about a man who died, mourning a man who has had a wrongful death. Nothing to do with anything else happening in the world, nothing to do with any of the rest of anything that has any matter to it.
If any of us had someone die or a death of someone near to us, or lets say hmm the thousands of people that are literally murdered daily, why are they not doing anything about them?7 -

Bungie's actions are an example. To underline that releasing new content today is NOT disrespectful. Therefore, this delay really is a seemingly random and odd choice to show sympathy.
And as you said yourself, what about people who took a day off for the launch? Their employer surely won't give them another day because of Floyd's funeral. Basically, to honor Floyd in their way, ZOS are "damaging" their customers. It's not a big thing and slightly exaggerated, but this is what they're doing.
Again, paying respects is good. I just think ZOS should have done it in a different way.2 -

I agree wholeheartedly with your first three points though I would call it an inconvenience to console users vs unfair. As far as being an admirable decision, that it is understandable probably depends on people's opinions on the important movement related to this decision.1 -

I think ZOS should seriously rethink that. So many games that have pre-purchase also have preloading, for the CONVENIENCE OF THE CUSTOMER. Since internet service speed varies so much, place to place, I personally think companies that allow a preload to customers that have already turned over their money, just makes good sense. Having it unlock at actual release time, and being able to actually play then, instead of just beginning a lengthy download (for some) should be universal practice for digital purchase, IMO.~~ Lady Gamer ~~ ♥ ~~ Xbox NA ~~1
