I don't have any children, or baby goats.
The problem with society these days is that no one drinks from the skulls of their enemies anymore.

They could fix the performance issues for good. That would be truly hype worthy.

If they made the game flawless. Players heads would explode not knowing what to complain about. Trying to find something positive and kind to say might be a new experience for them and their minds aren't wired for that.

Hmmm. Well a positive change I'd be quite enthused about would be making pets only need to be equipped to a single skill bar.

Lose minds in a good way:
    Fix the server performance

Lose minds in a bad way: Most of the player base would quit
    Increase gear cap
    Introduce open world PVP

    Bad:
"Thank you for playing. We have decided that we will be closing down all servers permanently on June 10th 2020. There will be no refunds."

    Good:
"We have solved every bug currently in the game."

Bad: Perfected gear in crown store.

    Good: smooth running Cyrodiil.

What I want: ability to gift homes or make all homes available through purchase in game.

I've heard a rumor that a lot of players would appreciate an actual guild hall.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

good and bad - we decided to solve the problems in cyrodiil by ending the war for good and focus on co-op instead of pvp.

    1. Ping below 100ms.
    2. Port or ride at speed through any area without load screens, black outlines, and NPCs/monsters just popping into place next to you, or invisibly attacking you.
    3. Story mode in the group dungeons, so we can see if they actually have story, not just 3 idiots charging ahead of you then arguing when they die in fire.
    4. Riding a mount without butt-riding the ground, or standing on its back.

I mean, I have more, but those would be pretty much "IT'S A WHOLE NEW GAME!"

Good: Return of soft caps, one hand and spell line, undo majority of the nerfs, allow players to actually play as they want

Came here to say this. Really I doubt any other change would make the player base lose their mind in the same way as not having to struggle with these issues constantly.

As I doubt they would shut the game with such short notice and that everyone, well everyone with more than a single brain cell, expects the game to shut down at some point, I don't think people would lose their mind exactly. Be sad and even grieve what would be gone and what could havr been, yes. But I can't recall a "lose their mind" situation over a game closing down, usually because when a game does it's pretty obvious to everyone that it was heading there.

What are you guys talking about? It's really easy for ZoS to make everyone lose their minds. All they have to do is nerf something. Or buff something. Or fix an exploit. Or not fix an exploit. Or pretty much anything and everything we see in every single patch from before the game even went live.

I'm done with this game because of ZOS pushing us into Vengeance, because they don't know how to fix Cyrodiil.

That was kind of the point... I mean everyone knows games like this have an expiration date. What would cause people to lose their minds is that they just released greymoor (hell ps4 wont even get it till the 10th) and aren't giving refunds. It was really just a wild thought. Not that it's something they would actually do.

If you read TOS, it’s actually not wild. It’s clearly states there that they may make game unavailable for any reason at any time and that any intellectual property remains theirs. So no, in any event of any game ever shutting down with similar or same TOS was ever giving out refunds.

They advertised Greymoor to be a year of gothic adventures. A year. People bought the expansion with that in mind. Just shutting it down next week (pure thought experiment, not gonna happen) would be a good old bait and switch. There can be consequences for such things.
