2014 was great too.. but in 2015 my buddy & i started playing more regularly & getting to know the game better. We started PVPing & loved it ! Classes were all mostly un-nerfed & it could be brutal against certain builds but that is what made it so awesome imo. We joined guilds & made new friends. It was all new & cool.

Bias post. Where is an option for, "I have enjoyed the game from beta to the present time".

    This^

I have enjoyed this game since beta. I love the new content added each year and the changes in combat etc. is part of it. I just adjust. 🙂

I was in between year 1 and year 2 , I chose year 1 just because it was such a cool new experience although year 2 was better as far as content. Man this game used to be awesome...

I did enjoy the period between Homestead and Morrowind as well. There has been a noticeable steady decline in quality as the game ages.

On PS4 I really enjoyed PVP between 2015-17. Some great great times then :)

Plus the Morrowind hype, that twitch stream that announced it and the new Warden class was my peak of hype for ESO I think

It's a tough call between this year and the year of Summerset. Murkmire is the best expansion they've released for the game and it saddens me to know that we will never see anything like it again with these year long story arcs. But I opted for the year prior in part because in year 2018 is when we start to see the monetization of this game get even more heavy-handed. The decision to do this - monetize our events, slap skill points and skill lines in the cash shop - it just broke my support for this game. Previously I'd looked the other way on the predatory monetization of this game because of the quality of content, I just couldn't do that any longer. I believe in supporting the things I use and enjoy, but when my reason for subbing has shifts from "I genuinely want to support this quality game" to "I am psychologically manipulated to do this because of the benefits" that's not a good feeling.

For me this is very different between PvE and PvP. I loved PvP in 2014/2015, when there were epic scaled battles in Cyrodiil. I stopped playing PvP since the player caps get lowered and lowered.
PvE (not a trial player) has gotten better, because there is more content. But everything 2014-2016 was all very interesting, With 2017 came Homestead, which was a great and welcome addition, and Morrowind which also was a great addition in content and with a new class showed there was more on the horizon in the form of these chapters. So I can't really decide, I enjoy the game now, but prior to the crown store the world felt a lot more mysterious. Now everyone is just running around on their typical MMORPG mounts and in exotic costumes with pets blocking every imaginable interaction. But I'm really enjoying Greymoor.

I definitely agree though that there is a lot that is promised but is undelivered, especially when it comes to stability and performance. Back in 2014 it was worse in a way, but also far more enjoyable even when it wasn't working, now it's just not acceptable anymore.

What I miss most though are the days of knowing what content was to come the following years. We had known about Murkmire since 2014, yet it came out only in 2018. Now we barely know what is coming out in the same year.

IC/2015 : and Orsinium very good, IC is underrated. Few bugs, good PvP, good PvE HL, good rotation, best community for LORE and creation of addons :)

2015 year of promises, following years were so... disapointed and now we are all frustrate or angry against ZoS or naive.

Pretty much everything about the game (except performance, of course) was much worse than it is today but it was also new and exciting.
Everyone was absolutely clueless and you never knew what you were gonna find next, a new adventure or a game-breaking bug.

Also, nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

    Could not describe it better.
That feeling for me is more precious than endless new content.
Oh and also the insane performance that every time kept me amazed.

I voted 2016 because it did so much for the base game mechanics. Two new guilds, loads of new lands to explore, and One Tamriel. That's a lot of gameplay and system updates that Chapters don't get close to any more.

@JKorr Nonsense, you're reading into things. Having a favourite year/expansion/DLC doesn't mean you think all the other years were trash. If we're still here today, with many of us having played since beta, then we still all enjoy the game to various degrees. Doesn't mean you can't have an opinion on which year was ESO's peak output.

    Toss up between 15~16

Orsinium felt like a huge DLC that I actually got what I was expecting & paying for. I really did not care for the destroying of difficulty with One Tamriel, or the introduction of this chapter nonsense, and it felt like in those 2 years there was significantly less (laser) focus on my wallet.

I first got the game 2015 and it quickly bored me to tears before I got anywhere.

I gave it a 2nd try at late 2018 and doing most of the casual content first time was pretty fun.

    Yea gotta be that guy,

I started weekend testing in the summer but I got asked to start full time testing in October. While everyone was having fun seeing how far they could get in EP (because that was all that was unlocked on most of the weekend tests) I played through all of the DC quest line and got 3/4 way done with AD (as VR level). I also got to group with some of the folks who would go on to be bigger names in the community. (they had a limited number of folks to choose from ;) )

The reason I don't say 2014 is because the guild I helped create early on pretty much imploded once NDA was lifted and they found out that I had been testing full time when they were just doing weekends and I didn't tell them about it. There was some pretty hurt feeling over it. Most of the ones that stuck around migrated to the main guild I'm in now. I don't get to play with them much but I still do from time to time. I think the only reason they haven't kicked me yet and keep me around is for nostalgia.

Another reason I don't count 2014 was that by the time launch came around I had done so much that it took me nearly 3 months to get to new content that I hadn't seen before.

They were hurt that you were testing full time and didn't tell them? Seems like a petty thing to be upset about, what business is it of theirs how often you were testing?
