[Question] Is there an Option opt into 'Furnished' after buying

As the title says:

We all know there's the option to buy most of the housing 'pre-furnished'; with crowns. My question is: If you opt to buy a house for, say, coin. But don't opt to have it purchased with furnishments already present. Can you later opt into having the house furnished for you? Or is it something that is only available at the time of purchase?

It is only possible to choose so when you're buying, I'm afraid.

They added the ability to preview homes in 'unfurnished' as well as 'furnished' versions, so people can see and decide based on that. But there is no way to change your mind after you make the purchase.

However, almost all items that come with 'furnished' houses can be crafted and bought from other players. So you can get your house furnished the same way, it will just take longer to hunt down the items and place them than if you had bought it furnished, but it's usually much cheaper to furnish it yourself. If you lack the gold for it, you could take the Crown difference that the furnished house would have cost you, and exchange them for gold via a Crown Store gifting exchange. You usually end up with more bang for your buck that way.

The furnishings that come with a house purchased for Crowns are also Bound, so furnishing a house yourself with crafted and gold-bought furniture gives you more control, and allows you to sell the items if you ever re-decorate. Of course, you can also buy the furniture directly from the Editor menu for Crowns, it will just cost more to buy them individually than the Crown difference that they charge for the 'furnished' version. But this way you only get the items you'd like in your house, and don't end up with lots of bound furniture you may not even want.

So, sorry to disappoint you, but I hope you'll enjoy decorating your house regardless!

This is true, assuming you leave out things like newer (as opposed to base game) paintings, which are often harder/more expensive to get, in-game, if they are available at all.

The pre-furnished versions of Proudspire Manor and the Alinor Townhouse, for example, come with a lot of (non base game) paintings.

So, if you like those paintings and were going to buy the houses with Crowns, anyway, it might be worth buying some of the chapter/DLC houses furnished, for the paintings alone.

As paintings are one of the more overpriced furnishings in the Crown Store.

They have changed the way painting drops work now, though, so it remains to be seen whether that will still apply soon.

Either way, if you are buying a house in a newly released chapter and you want to furnish it straight away, in the same style as the house, it is worth remembering that, although you will eventually be able to craft these furnishings and/or buy them for a reasonable price from guild stores, you will not be able to do so, to start with.

As the furnishings will all be newly released too and so, will inevitably be rare and expensive, at first, if they are available at all.

So, to sum up, if you are impatient and/or want a sufficient number of the uncraftable things, like the paintings, buy furnished.

Otherwise, buy unfurnished (preferably with gold).
