I'm old school been online so long i started when games were text based no graphics only hints like, you're in a tavern, there is a door to the south that leads outside and a door to the west that leads to the tavern cellar, do you go south or west ?. Yep a long time online and one thing i have learnt no matter how much things have progressed over the years is that this is the internet which is never going to be 100% reliable and neither is any game you will play. Lag is something that will always haunt us no matter how good a computer system or how good the programmers are.

One of the biggest problems is trying to make a game that will work for many different computer setups from graphic cards and types of ram and processors etc used by us all. Millions of lines of code has to be fed into the system to try and make even the simplest things work as they should. So the software needed is a huge task alone and if it wasn't for those people that spent years training in programming we wouldn't be here. The same goes for all those looking after the hardware side of things.

I could go on and on about this but i'm sure most of you are not interested and bored already so i'll just say a big thank you to the Devs and everyone that is involved in ESO a huge thank you for all you do even though right now with the pandemic throwing a spanner in the works, you are still managing to work in difficult conditions. Also a huge thank you to Gina and all the Zos staff that appear on the forum helping us and keeping us updated when they can.

I'm sure a lot of people love the game and will admit they have a lot of fun playing although sometimes it can be frustrating, if it wasn't so good they wouldn't be so upset about it.

Anyhoo thank you all again for what you do to make things happen.

It's their job! They get paid good money to fix the mess they themselves created. Why should we PAYING customers be thankful for receiving half the product we are paying for? It's because of people like you that corporations can continue to screw customers over. You fanbois will defend them until the end, disgusting.

Yes we've come a long way since the ZX Spectrum/Commodore 64.. games like 'Planet of Death', 'Espionage Island' .. and at the time much more technical adventures like the Zork games which you always envied other computers being able to play as the adventure descriptions were so much better. :) How far we have indeed evolved, and back then we wouldn't have dreamed that a game as detailed graphically would be on the screen(s) in front of us. Mind you back then we didn't have gigabytes, it was all kilobytes, and a game was written to fit into memory of either 16k, 48k or 64k, and often loaded from tape unless you were posh and hard a disk drive or tape drive. If you asked young people now what an azimuth alignment kit is, they wouldn't know :)

Now i work in IT myself and have done for many years, and one thing I always find, as an engineer you have all the solutions, but its getting them financed and put into practice that never seems to happen, so you can bet your bottom dollar that the IT guys in this equation right now are working extra hours missing 'being a dad/mum' for those extra hours, and often getting little thanks for it. We often say its a thankless task and when someone takes the time just to say THANK YOU it makes a huge difference.. makes you feel more.. valued.

So I agree, and say thank you to the people running around at the bottom of this supporting their IT ... then upwards through to the escalation team members who equally have a tough job when launching something new like this. I don't mind some days of pain, but do hope they listen to the guys at the bottom tiers for their fix ideas because they are probably RIGHT.

I was actually thinking about this recently.

I started gaming in 1985, 35 years ago, and when I started we had entire games that someone had sat in their bedroom and written by themselves.

Now we have games where there are 200-250 people or more working on them. Crazy.

As to OP, yeah, ZOS team is working mad hours right now. Is the downtime frustrating? Sure, but I'd rather be chilling waiting for the game to come back than working the long hours the devs are right now.

I recall having to start up my PC in DOS mode and typing Menu and then WIN just to open windows. I look back at the games I played then and compare to now. . . I prefer now.

As far as Elder Scrolls goes I am thankful I don't have to hop around to level my Acrobatics skill anymore, But I still do it out of habit.

I think it is important to thank the people working from home right now so we all can have something to do during this pandemic.

Thank you to everyone still doing their jobs well (well being the operative word, here), for money.

Especially people on the front line - which, as far as I know, doesn't involve game devs working from home.

A special thank you to the people who (through no fault of their own) have no jobs and to the self employed, who can't go back to work (due to the nature of it) and/or have no work coming in and therefore, no money, anymore

No thank you's to the individuals and corporations, who try to take advantage of everything.

Even - no, especially(!) - a pandemic, to make even more money and/or grab even more power and (very often) pay none of it back, or only in ways that suit them, not us.

No thank you's to them, at all.

Thanks to those who are diligently chipping away at the vast number of issues currently facing the game. Let’s all hope they can successfully address the issues that have plagued the game on PC EU for the last 2 years.

Not much thanks to those who are supposed to be in charge of development, finance and overseeing production... the vast majority of these issues could have been eliminated or substantially reduced with more foresight, better planning, and appropriate resourcing.

How does that address the criticism? Instead of shooing people away who complain BECAUSE they love the game and would like to have a better experience, maybe try to see it from their perspective and don't patronise them or dismiss their complaints as if they were unjustified.

I started my working life as an electrician and I never got thanked for not fixing a power outage in a timely manner. But you know, if you want to thank your car mechanic for not quite fixing your breaks before going on a roadtrip, that's up to you. I'd rather tell him/her to fix my breaks properly.

    Crazy, isn't it?

The next time my video game goes out or I drive my video game I will keep that in mind.

I've played plenty of Bethesda games and bugs generally come with the whole open world RPG territory. MMOs have lag.

Elderscrolls was one of the first Open world games I played and will continue to play because I enjoy it.

Every now and then we get an influx of players from other MMOs and the forums blow up with negativity.

For all the complaining and what not and people saying they don't want to play this game they sure do spend their time wisely

on the forums of a game they don't want to play.

The trouble is that not everyone by a long way suffers from all, or even some, of the issues that get raised in the context of the "game that doesn't work". I've been playing continuously since launch on PC EU and to a lesser degree on PC NA and I can say in total honesty that of the 10 issues listed above by @evoprimes there isn't a single one that I've experienced in any significant way. Have I had a couple of random logouts or long loading screens in 6 years? Yes, but that's it and I don't consider that to be either significant or different to any other game over the years.

As such I happily endorse the OP's thanks to the devs for sorting out the issues that have affected the Chapter launch, although apart from the first day's issues it has run fine for me apart obviously from the various downtimes.

The problem with the fanboy tag is that it only applies to those who claim to find no fault with any aspect of a game whatsoever. I don't have any problems in large part because I neither PvP nor do Trials, nor use addons, but I don't regard the game as perfect and regularly have a moan about the rubbish trading system, for example. Both of us can only base our views on our own experiences, and mine are very largely positive while yours may be very largely negative. That doesn't make me a fanboy any more than it makes you a troll. It just makes our experiences of the game different.

exactly - I played a bit now to check out how it currently is and I've to say from my point of view there is progress to be found - given that i stay away from group content most of the time, but changing characters is faster, wayshrine teleports are responsive and it is fun to play again - will have to see how it will be at prime time, but so far it looks really good.
