I have multiple toons to gear up and dont have the gold to shell out for mothers sorrow staves and jewelry.
Are there any sets i can craft or are more easily obtained that perform comparably?
I thought about running twiceborn star or new moon. But didnt know how well twiceborn will work when losing bonus on back bar. And am not a fan of the extra cost on new moon.
Preferably if you can offer what the dps difference looks like that would be helpful as well.

Maybe Mechanical acuity will do? I remember there were builds with it and solid dps parses, before Siroria and False god came to scene.

That depends on the dot. Generally, ground dots update their stats after bar swap while "sticky" single target dots do not. There are exceptions but it's easy to test.
For my magblade, wall of elements, twisting path and mystic orb all update their damage after a bar swap. Crippling grasp, degeneration and consuming trap do not update and continue to use the back bar stats. How important this is depends on the build and bar setup.

Wow, thanks for the insight! I was using MS on frontbar like forever and even didn't even had idea that spell damage will be updated on aoe dots.
It is amazing how every day we can learn something new
