Should have not said anything and seen just how long it would take them to realize.

Pity no new class/race to force them to roll back the entire server though

All I know is that the only thing I've been looking forward to on this game for literally the past 3 years is now delayed until who knows when. I miss the days when, if they screwed something up and there was downtime, they actually comped us sub time. Of course that stopped when the game went free to play. Nevermind that many of us STILL sub to help keep this beast afloat. We no longer rate compensation. I guess because that wouldn't be "fair" because they can't give sub time to everybody. Know what they COULD do? They could give everyone crowns.... I'd say 1k per hour the servers are down.

Pro Tip: Don't hold your breath on that one.

It's Buy to Play... there is a difference.
FYI - There is no such thing as 'night capping' in a world wide MMO.
FYI - There was no paid Beta. When they launched the game the Beta was over, even if you don't think it was.
    FYI - It's B2P not F2P. There is a difference.
FYI - It doesn't take any player skill to mash keys or buttons in this game. The ones that stay alive longer have the better internet connection and speed.
FYI - The game is not broken, it still works. It just has 'bugs' that need to be fixed.
    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

Example: There were hundreds of Jedi and only two Sith in Star Wars. The Jedi wanted, "Balance in the Force" and they got it. Now there are only two Jedi and two Sith.

    Balance is a "Bad" thing.

    Few things:

First, that forum user was ridiculed in the thread bringing the issue to the attention of Zeni, which forced mods to lock the thread (and quite possibly start investigations into a few forumgoers, given the nastiness present).

Second, the longer it went on, the more players Zeni has to remove from the new zone (which might have to be done one-by-one), and the longer that maintenance would go on.

Finally, a rollback isn't out of the question yet.

Could this possibly be related to the fact that all players had access on the PTS?

Way back when you had to pre-order to test this did not happen.

Hopefully next year it will be on the list of important things to check before lighting the fires in the steam engines of the servers.

Right now though it is as it is and this one can only shred a few chair legs as she waits - too soon for another nap!

Hmm, well I guess I should have mentioned that I could access the content on the PTS without a Plus account.

I thought I was only supposed to be able to test base game changes but it was the first time I tried the PTS without an ESO+ membership so I thought I was remembering it wrong.

Well nobody who lived through Cyrodiil (and is still here) after the ironically named "Performance improvement" patch, can be surprised by anything anymore.

I belong to this particular subset of ESO subscribers so a maintenance patch which lasts 1 day instead of 4 hours is not really likely to upset me.
Actually it belongs to this kind of things where you start to laugh uncontrollably because it's the only sane reaction one can have.

Yeah, the OP from that thread didn't do anything wrong. Also, we don't even know that ZOS found out about it from that post. Could have been reported in game as well. And it's a GOOD thing it was caught--not a bad thing. The faster it's caught, the faster it can be fixed. This few hours maintenance could have ended up being more serious.

Additionally, no there is no new class/race, but there are 2 new skill lines from antiquities that people were able to gain access to without purchasing Greymoor.

12pm EDT update: At this time, we are estimating to re-open the PC NA/EU megaservers within the hour. For visibility, the issue we were fixing was everyone having access to the Greymoor Chapter despite not having purchased it. Once we re-open, anyone who logged in this morning that has not purchased Greymoor will still see it as "owned" in the Crown Store; this is a UI error, and if you'd like to purchase the Chapter, you'll simply need to manually navigate to the website to purchase. Thanks again for everyone's patience while we worked through this issue. We'll let you know as soon as we open.

To be honest, I was surprised this morning when my launcher began to download the new patch and I thought, "Oh, well, perhaps this time I would be able to play earlier than others patch days." How naive... lol

Then I saw the second maintenance and I accept it old of habit. :D

That's not fair to her. It most likely isn't her job within zenimax to deal with server issues and honestly, being in customer support is really draining because of people like you.

Why on earth would want a person answering the phones to assist a software engineer? Do you go to a hospital and complain that the receptionist doesn't do brain surgery?

Easy to see no one has had to deal with an incremental software release (I have) let alone a remote release (I haven't). The thing about software is no matter how thoroughly you test, the end users will always find something you missed. Combing through tens of thousands if not millions of lines of code is not easy, and something small, like say a comma when a period was required can be really hard to catch, especially if it is in the 325,992nd line of code you have scanned. Crossed eyes, anyone?
Database and GUI coding sucks. I loved it, but damn, it sucks. Sigh, good times, good times. The 16 hour days, the waking up at 3am with a 'EUREKA! That's what the problem was!' and jumping on the keyboard with sleep now impossible, uncountable cans of the almighty Dew - what's not to love?
Yeah, I understand the frustration, and I feel it myself, but we DO have an explanation, and a general time span; nailing the time accurately is impossible for a fix like this and we do need to accept that.
You can bet they are working on the fix, and working hard, but we don't get to see it. They are also working remotely which makes it more difficult to collaborate. While griping can make you feel a bit better, it accomplishes nothing, but it does raise the blood pressure. Good for the vampires, I suppose.
Try to remember they WANT us to play, and relax. Maybe play some Skyrim to get in the mood.

I am a software developer working on incremental software releases and working from home since 2011.
For some unfathomable reason, we manage to deliver stuff and it works.

Are we a genius? No, we perform blue / green deployment and other methodologies that keep us safe.

There is a plethora of ways to avoid failing so hard. In the worst case, you can actually tell the players that you expect the delivery to be a rocky one and that **** GASP **** you are not going to charge during that patch day.
It takes so little to not destroy your built up credibility. Just admit it's a challenge and offer a tiny something that will make players happy.

Delivering a MMO is harder than blue / green deployment, but nobody forced them to get hired. They got hired because they believe to be able to deliver. They are paid to deliver.
If they fail again and again, every single time and with no exception, then their belief was not true. They are not able to deliver and I don't know why they don't replace them with somebody who is.
