Yes, players can play the game using 5.1 surround sound. They can determine if their device is correctly connected by following the below instructions:
Select the sound output
Connect the device.
From the Apple menu, click on System Preferences.
Click on the Sound icon.
Select the appropriate Output device in the Output tab.
Set up the output behaviour
Open the Macintosh Hard Drive / Finder icon on your Mac desktop.
Click on Applications.
Click on Utilities.
Select Audio MIDI Setup.
Click on output on the left pane.
Click on the Configure Speakers button.
Click Multichannel and Select 5.1 Surround from the drop down menu.

Carmina✭✭✭The MIDI setup thing is quite old, and it does not work for everyone. That's one of these "I try to say it all in one comment" posts. Would anyone go to the length and post some feedback about this?
