Current Best Magicka DPS class? *Trials*

hungrymagpie
Hello!

After a long break from ESO. I’m trying to increase my DPS on dummy’s to get back into end-content and currently what would be the best all round magicka DPS class in may 2020 in a trials situation (Console)

*damage, survivability, utility, what do trial leaders look for the most?

I currently have a magsorc and a magplar. And can’t decide, but with sorcerer I’m finding using Pets annoying in most situations but useful in something like Vma. So I’m looking at switching up my trials Class.

Thanks
P.S I have a stamblade that does really welll but interested in the magicka side

My opinion is 100% biased but I don't care. Wardens are also super fun.

Currently mag dk, will be much weaker next patch tho so no Point to make a new one from Scratch if you dont have one already.

Hated magicka warden but love stamina warden for some reason. Magicka was easier to play. DW stam warden for what it’s worth is the most exciting class I’ve played because it’s nonstop action. It’s quite punishing though if you mess up or if you can’t sustain.

Magplar is the other class I play and I find it to be total EZ mode.

Not much room for opinions. There are youtube videos showing it. While the skill of a player add or take 1 or 2k, the ranking is set.

From Harrowstorm and not much has changed since: Dragonknight>Templar>Necromancer>Warden>Sorcerer(pet)>Nightblade>Sorcerer

magdk can drop more sustainable damage pve than any other class. Its not even close. Super fire elfbane dot builds can stack damage effects tell the cows come home.

Nightblade should be way higher in that list. Easily #2 after DK. I’ve also found that pet Sorc is better than Warden, but I agree that no-pet Sorc is dead last in the rankings.

Maybe not second to magDK, but surely over warden with dumbguardian. Still it's quite clunky to play

Right now its magdk and its not even close but come next patch sorcs, wardens and nightblades all got a big boost while magdk got a small nerf.

    It'll probably look something like

Magblade, pet sorc, magdk, magcro, magden, magplar and non pet sorc.

All around I reckon MagBlade is the best if a bit tricky to master. Very good sustain, great constant and mobile flow of self-heals with Swallow Soul and Siphoning Attacks, as well as range. I reckon it's the safest bet, if you plan to level a new class.

MagDK currently has the highest DPS but is crutching on a bugged Asylum staff that will no longer be a thing come next week. Drop Asylum and try Siroria paired with MS or ElfBane and tell me if you really out-parse a magblade or a magplar. And with MagDK being a melee class it'll have to compete for melee spots with dps beasts like Stamplars, Stamsorcs and Stamcros. Something it might well struggle to do come next week. Quite risky to level one now.

Magplar has very good damage and group synergies but poor sustain. If you use Sweeps you have great heals with decent AoE damage but you become a melee class. It'd probably be my second choice, might even be first choice for some.

PetSorc and MagCro are pretty decent. MagWarden dps is a bit subpar. Not sure why anyone would play non-pet Sorc, just go MagBlade or MagPlar. Like I said, I'd wait on MagDK till the impact of Greymoor on the meta becomes clearer.

It’s best to have a stam and mag dps leveled for every class. That way meta shifts can’t affect you as your always ready.

Lol.. yes, it's best to have 12 toons so if anything shifts in the meta, you can too. :D

Speaking from someone with many alts, I just find it funny how this is a word of advice, most people don't have the time or patience to level that many toons, grind that many skill points or skill lines, swap sets and cp, etc for you to nonchalantly say something like "it's best to have..".

Nothing against you or anything, just funny to see how wildly different an end game communities view point is from most of the player base.

I’m leveling up my second too now and that grind is killing me and I haven’t even started mages guild or psijic order which I need skills and passives from to complete my build. I’m not sure I could do this 10 more times! I do have plans for 2 more though. Would like a magcro and a stamDK to go with my magplar and stamwarden.

No interest in playing NB or Sorc.

In May 2020: It's not up for Debate, presuming you have a perfected Asylum staff. DK is firmly in first place.

That said, the staff is getting nerfed into an oblivion next patch and DK is going to fall hard. Nobody knows exactly what will go live. They are reworking Vampire significantly, and some classes synergise much better with it than others. The damage potential that vamp offers is dramatic, but there is risk that comes with it.

They offer a spammable that is strong but costs health, which means you need really good healing to use it. They also offer a toggle that is a huge damage boost, but means you cant be healed by anyone else. Classes like NB with class spammable that self heals, can potentially take enormous advantage of this, but it is going to be a very risky playstyle. It will certainly be meta for score chasers, but whether that trickles down into the mid ranks is still to be seen.

In 2020 it does not matter. Just Find a class you can play well. Raid leads aren’t picking you because your class. They need someone that’s decent.

that right there is 100% dead on!
Take me...I have a MagDK...elf bane, that certain staff, etc. And yet I suck. Cant blame the gear or the build...i'm just not that good playing it, much to my dismay. Now Magden, not an issue...so yea...it is 100% how you play whatever toon you have. ;)

That part really is the key. Or just as good, the one you enjoy playing (as you will likely play it well). In the best hands, all classes are going to be north of 90k on a dummy. Doesnt mean everyone will or needs to pull that type of damage, but all have the potential to do plenty of DPS. Some classes are just natural tougher to play. NB is harder to pull High DPS than a sorc, but especially next patch, NB probably has the higher ceiling.

Do you want to manage a bunch of DOTs? do you want a dymanic rotation or something very static? Do you want to manage a skill like sub assault or blast boones that needs to be cast every two or three skills? I would recommended you watch some rotation videos and see what appeals to you.

Or just keep playing your favorite class  I was a magden main back when it was a meme class and will continue to play it unless they nerf everything about it that I love. I think it'd be hard for them to completely screw up the class (ZOS: "hold my beer") to that point, though.

If you enjoy playing the meta class no matter what then your advice is fantastic, but I also think that all classes are perfectly capable of completing 99% of the content.

Yep agreed, any class can complete any content in the game (I’d say 100%). Groups of players may enforce more restrictions (some justified, others arbitrary). You’ll definitely have an easier time getting into a trial group as a Necromancer (provides a crucial group buff, 3 are necessary) than a Warden (is fun to play, usually brings nothing to a group). There are always a few flex spots in a group comp after the necessary roles are filled, they’re just usually in higher demand or given to the highest DPS class.
