PSA: Weapon Surfing Bug Temporary Fix

I mentioned this in my pvp guild the other day, and I was surprised more people did not know about it. If you get the bug where it looks like you are walking on your weapon like its some kind of magical skate board, you can get rid of it by equipping a guild tabard. You can even take the tabard right off, and it will stay fixed. I'm on PC/NA. I'm not sure if it is different on console.

Hopefully ZOS will perma fix this long time bug, but maybe they will only do it for gamepad mode like the most recent PTS patch fixing perma shield animation bug for gamepad mode.

Edit: Please see the posts below for other possible fixes.

Counter intuitive, but yes, this is the permanent fix. Whether it's logical that your head is somehow rigged directly to your feet is another matter. But this is confirmed working for a long time.

This is not a permanent fix. It's just as temporary as any of the other appearance changes other people suggested. It "fixes" the visual bug immediately as long as you stay in the same zone, but as soon as you go through a loading screen the bug is bound to reappear. In my case, it consistently happens if I take my tank through a loading screen on my off-bar. Zoning while on my main bar will make the weapons render correctly.

I've not had it recur after searching the forums and finding this solution a few months back. YMMV, I guess.

Unless I'm mistaken the bug only appears on characters that have 2 weapons, weapon+shield on one bar, and a 2-handed weapon on the other. In my case, it only happens on my tank characters that wield sword and board/staff - go through a loading screen on my staff bar, and if I switch to my main bar the sword and shield are invisible and I'm surfing on my staff. If that's not a weapon setup you run with very often, you're not bound to come across the glitch much, as far as I know.

I have a feeling there are two "versions" of this bug depending on whether you run two different weapons of the bars or the same type of weapon.
My NB has dual wield on front bar and bow on back, if I load into a zone on her backbar her bow ger stuck under her feet when I switch to front bar and her blades are invisible. My sorc and necro who wields a staff of both bars otoh get the visual "stuck" on the one for the backbar staff until changed. Like my sorc has the psijic motif for front bar and ancient elf for back but if I load in on the backbar is get stuck on ancient elf until fix. As I use the different motifs to know which bar, and thus which skill set, I'm on, this is highly annoying but I've more or less become acxustomed to always switch to frontbar after a fight.
Still a nuisance and still wish they'd fix it.

Anecdotally I feel that combination of a collectible hat and a costume glitches less than costume with no hat or no costume. But it still possible.

I gave up trying to find what costuming & weapons combination correlates with the "running on weapon after loadscreen" glitch when I managed to glitch both front and back weapons at same time.

Clutch is useful, but it just automates the process of toggling Hide Helm after going through a loading screen.

Don’t get me wrong — I use it myself and would recommend it as well, but the bug can still occur even with Clutch enabled in certain circumstances, such as Lair of Maarselok. If you get the blight on you in that dungeon, your weapons can glitch out. Fortunately the author of Clutch included an optional hot key to trigger the Hide Helm toggle for situations like this where it would be particularly annoying to stop and enter the Collections menu. But it goes to show that these aren’t actually true fixes but workarounds that the community has discovered and created, since ZOS has shown no urgency in doing anything about the issue.

Even though I’ve had a lot of success with the Hide Polymorph Helmet workaround when I’m not using Clutch, that obviously prevents us from showing polymorph helmets. It’s not an appropriate solution to have to disable one bit of functionality to preserve another. ZOS is really the only one who can actually fix this bug, and it’s well overdue.

ZOS's bug list must be the size of the dictionary at this point. BTW that polymorph helmet thing does not work for me.

I just put "hide helm" in one of my quick slots and toggle it as needed.

It's related to which bar you're on when entering a loading screen.
