As title asks, which one holds the most important place in terms of bringing buffs to your group, gear or class? Is it more important as to what gear you wear or is what Class you are the key factor?
Or.....both?
Example being if I am Stamplar WW do I bring enough as that or do I need to put on certain sets to help buff my group? Yea, buffing myself is a no-brainer but what about helping out the homeys? And yea, WW is probably a poor example but something I am currently working on so was keen in my head. Could be any Class...but again, is that enough and I just focus on self buffs gear wise?

    Both are important.
But there are a lot of buffs you can get from sets or a class. But there are typically more efficient ways to obtain those buffs so when designing an ideal group composition you have to factor in which buffs are relevant and what is the most efficient way to obtain those buffs.

For example lets consider the debuff minor vulnerability. That increases the damage a target takes by 8%. Anyone can provide that by wearing Infallible aether and heavy attacking the target once every 10 seconds. Most healers ran that set in the past for the damage increase it provides to the group. But a warden can also apply that same debuff for 10 seconds by casting fetcher infection on the target. So in this situation it would be more efficient to have a warden in group to provide that debuff and wear another set that could potentially buff the group.
But compare that debuff to the major vulnerability that ONLY comes from a necromancer. There is currently no other way to obtain that debuff to having even just 1 necro in your group on any role will help your group a lot more than having other more easily obtainable buffs.

Only if you time your ult well with the other necros, no reason for 8 necros when uptime has 12 seconds cool down between major vulnerabilities.

But ye, usually healers and tanks bring gear that contribute to group, while dds focus on damage. Also for mag groups you will want at least 1 sorc and 1 plar and 1 dk for minor buffs (6% crit 10% spell dmg, 10% fire dmg taken) and for Stam groups at least 1 nb and 1 dk (6% crit 10% weapon power), and in mixed groups all the options I guess, but you still need to do the class specific thing to proc it.

Dds could however build ze'n of they have enough DoT effects for decent uptime, in trial this set will buff other dds for ~4% each, Which means group dmg increase of ~32% of a dd.
In weaker groups where tank doesn't provide alkosh, alkosh on a Stam dd is also very, very strong.
    Very.
