I would like to play through the story content in a logical manner. I have all the DLC up to Elswyer Where is it suggested I start and how should I progress. Or is the game going to force me to start in Elswyer.

New characters will start in Elsweyr, but you can wayshrine to other places as soon as you exit.

If you are coming back, and have not finished the main quest through all of the Cadwell stuff, I would just go do that, then come back and do Morrowind, Clockwork City, and Summerset, before heading off to Elsweyr.

Ultimately, it does not matter as much as people might think, but the order that they released stuff seems to be the most logical. My personal opinion.

Also if I have Elswyer do I have everything. Right now I have a sub. Bu tif I choose to go to free access am I going to lose access to a lot of content. Actually I purchased Summerset when it came out to. Not Morrowind however. But I never purchased any of all that other content that came before expansions as always had a sub.

I forgot everything. form that original content. When I was playing several months ago it was Elswyer content. But I would kind of like to experience the entire story. Where should I go to start at the very beginning.

@Elsonso You forgot Orsinium, which I think is best after Cadwell's gold but before Morrowind. Then there's Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood, which are pretty independent of everything else. Although characters in Dark Brotherhood will acknowledge interactions with you from the base game zones. Murkmire is also pretty independent.

Anyway, to the OP, new characters will always start in whatever the latest chapter you have is. But the moment you're out of the tutorial, you can use a wayshrine to go anywhere you like.

There is a little bit of a flow to the areas, since they sometimes reference events in another one or sometimes you'll hit events where characters behave like it's your first meeting when you already met them somewhere else. But really these things are limited to things like in the first dialogue a character says "Oh, hello my good friend. Fancy meeting you here."

Or a cryptic message or two in the dialogue at the end of the zone's main quest line hinting at events in the next zone that was released. "I heard there's something brewing over in the Dunmer homeland, but enough of that. Let's celebrate!" Stuff like that.

Beyond those little dialogue hints, it doesn't really matter much what order you do things in.

Now that Greymoor is coming out, all chapters prior to Elsweyr are the same as DLC - that is you get them with the subscription. If your sub expires you will lose access to anything you haven't outright purchased.

I forget the order of the smaller DLC, but if you want to do things in "chronological" order then here is what I do:
    • Skip the Elsweyr tutorial and port right to your main faction city so you can start the Main Quest.
    • Level through the faction zones, and do the mages guild, fighters guild, and main story as you get to them. (For example, when the mages guild tells you to meet them in X zone, wait until you actually get there in the faction zones). This isn't really required it's just how I like to do it, because the end of the main quest includes fighters/mages guild people and I just like to proceed with the feeling that they know me.
    • Once you finish the main quest, zones, and guilds, proceed on to the DLCs and Chapters in the order they came out. I think this is ordered in how they came out: https://elderscrollsonline.wiki.fextralife.com/DLC
    • Then you can go and do the other factions as you feel like it. I personally like to do Aldmeri zones before Summerset again just because I like to think Raz knows me from before. So I usually do the faction zones before tackling the DLC.

I agree with @Elsonso though, the order you do stuff in doesn't really matter a whole lot. But I'd finish the main quest first at least. And you may want to do Summerset first if you need the Psijic skill line in your build.

If you unsub, you do lose access to those DLCs which you haven't bought.
