How does damage apply if you have a shield at the same time with Mist Form

fxeconomisteb17_ESO
As I understood, shield inherit the resistances of the armor. Do they also inherit Mist Form ?
"Is it true her wounds healed on their own ? Yes" No s***, at 75% health regen penalty!

I was a vampire like you, but then I took an idea to the head...

Mist form is already a % damage reduction so it would not make sense for it to inherit resistances to from armor and it occurs before the damage hit's the shield. A shield is able to absorb a flat amount of damage vs a damage reduction like mist form.

Hum? That was changed half a year ago. Shields work exactly the same as hps. If you have a shield it will drop just as fast as your health would without the shield.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

A year ago or something, I heard that shields inherit resistances - spell and physical resistances. Think it was after Summerset. When they discussed to introduce a 1 second cast time for sorcerer wards.

Now I think my question is this way: what is the first ? Mist Form to reduce damage by 75% and passes it forward to the shield ? or the shield comes before mist form ?

Oh no, this is not commutative.

Let's say you are hit with a 10K hit and you have a 5K shield with a 30% resistance.

Case a. Mist Form before Shield.
Mist Form reduces hit to 2.5K, hits the shield, 750 is absorbed (30%), 70% hits the shield of 5k, remaining is 5000-1750 = 3250

Case b. Shield before Mist Form.
3000 is absorbed (30%), 70% hits the shield, 7000. The shield is completely destroyed, remaining damage of 2000 is passed
to Mist Form, which tanks 75%, that is 1500, and remainder damage is 500. Resistance applies again (30% tanked, 150), means that 350 hits the health pool.

Yes, shields do inherit the resistance. That was not the question from OP. Their question concerned Mist Form inheriting the resistance as shield does.

Unless you can demonstrate that the % damage reduction for mist form is increased by our characters resistance my comment stats as correct.

Yes, I was not stating anything to the contrary. Since shields absorb a flat amount of damage it makes more sense that they inherit the resistance from the player. It is nothing more than virtual health added on top of our actual health. I might have not been clear enough on that.

Mist Form is not virtual health meaning there is no place for resistance to play a role. If there was then it would be double-dipping and problematic in PvP.

Edit: In the end, if you have Mist Form active and have 50% resistance from armor and buffs while getting hit for 10k 2.5k gets past Mist Form and then that 2.5k is mitigated to 1.25 k which is the damage the player takes.

Ofc, I used 50% damage reduction for ease of math as that would pretty much be a tank.

Mist form is commutative with all other forms of damage reduction. Shields are not damage reduction, they are additional health pools. This has always been the case, even before shields were affected by armor. Currently the only form of damage reduction that doesn't work for shields is blocking.

I think it works same like when you have shield (spell) and blocking. it costs you stamina but it doesn't block anything. But i never tried it with mist form
  • fxeconomisteb17_ESO
I got it. It's commutative with health. Resistance applies first before hitting the shield.

My assumption would be that any damage has to break through your shield, before the damage is applied, and that damage will then be reduced by the mist form.

Mist form is just a straight up reduction to the damage received. I do not think it has "resistances".

    No, that was before Murkmire...
