This is not a performance thing. Also we are in the middle of their year long plan to fix performance and that ends sometime at the end of this year.

True, we are also 3 full updates a way. It ends on patch 29, but they do keep extending it. So I would imagine around patch 27, there will be plans around patch 30.

If they accomplish that kind of rewrite of code in the client and server, and reconfigure it in that short amount of time then ZOS must be secretly located on Mount Olympus.

There are two types of problems(and fixes) in ESO.

There's the big, game-breaking problems like crashes and being unable to log in or access chunks of game content, that're usually fixed within a few days to a few weeks.

Then there's the smaller, creeping, mounting problems like Cyrodiil lag, group finder, weapon swap bug, sprint bug, etc. That never really get fixed, they just get a little worse each year.

Did they say what today's maintenance is for?

    Nope don't think so.

Oh wait..look in the header : • [IN PROGRESS] ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – May 11, 4:00AM EDT (8:00 UTC) - 2:00PM EDT (18:00 UTC)

I wonder if that's the main reason ;)

My bad, I meant console. Thanks for the sarcasm

With these long service windows they ought to have dual servers and just switch to the updated one. That this has been going on since 2014 makes me wonder how this is run.

Quick question! Would new servers help the issues with the game? Yes or no?

And the player-data and all the stuff on the server which has been running for the week... They get instantly transfered to the updated server? They just appear as clean, well organized databases instantly?

You want them to double the servers they need, so that the game isn't down for an average of less than 3 hours a week? (yes, I know this one is longer)

They should double the servers they have just so the game is more playable in general.

But, to suggest they should have redundant server space to cover the maintenance time is a massive waste of resources.

Typically this sort of non-game-patch server maintenance might include some Operating System and middleware patches, or possibly replacing a dead part which is too risky to do while the system is up. There might also be some sort of network gear updates or replacements. The players easily forget that the game-side application also runs on a set of computers, which could be hacked or go wonky or just randomly break if not updated with all the latest security patches, firmware, and so on. Most of that is done according to supplier recommendations - ZoS is not in the business of designing and manufacturing computers, networks, and their OS etc. from scratch. Even the game engine is licensed and likely gets updates from other companies.

This close to launching Greymoor, they might also be doing some sort of database or other prep on the server side. It doesn't all happen on launch day.

Just let them get on with it, and pray that nothing new breaks.
