Leveling Abilitys Questions

Later today ill be leveling a new character (its not my first time)
However it just occurred to me that when I would level my Restoration staff/ability's, I always did that with the weapon and the ability on the same bar.
My question is: Can I have Restoration staff abilities on my bar, and still use my Destro staff, and get XP towards my resto staff?
I know I wont be able to use the ability obviously, but if it can just sit there and get XP then when im done leveling my Destro, my Restro will hopefully be higher level so finishing it wont be that big a deal.

✭Its been a while since i leveled a toon, but if i remember you actually have to be using the correct weapon to level the skill.
Others may be able to confirm.

✭✭✭✭✭Yes. You only have to have the Resto Staff Equipped long enough to kill something, or while it is dying to unlock the skill line.
Then, once the line is unlocked, slotting one or more skills will gain exp on that line while you get kills or turn in quests. It is how I leveled Resto on all my Alts.
Note, since the Resto Bar is so weak, try killing a critter like a Squirrel or Lizard first, barring that, a low level Wolf. If not, swap to it for the killing blow.Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

✭Yup I do this all the time when leveling up weapon abilities on alts. Really handy on classes with a class spammable because that gives me enough bar space for an ability in each class skill line plus two different weapon lines (for example, if I want to level up DW, 2H, and bow for build flexibility later on).0 -
