Are there any vendors that sell Salt? I would love to not have to farm it.

I'm not sure, have you checked the usual merchants? Grocer, chef, etc. It might depend on your level.

    Daggerfall Covenant: Fork-Stealer, Argonian Dragonknight
    Aldmeri Dominion: Kadigan, Bosmer Nightblade

Vendors don't sell ingredients. The hireling can send you spices, but I don't think it's worth the skill points...

I recently completed a quest that announced I now have access to salt. Don't ask me which one, but it had to do with saving a sacred tree.

Salt, Pepper, Garlic all seem to be acquired by drop / hireling only. If someone has information otherwise I'm all ears.

    This.

If the ingredient is only needed for blue/purple recipes, I guarantee it is not sold by any vendor.

Onions more valuable than gemstones, sign of a strong economy!

In a world where the poorest among us are forced to drink beer made from aged meat, good food should be a pricey commodity.

I heartily agree. I put a point into the provisioning hireling and I get ONE item a day for that. An absolute waste of a point.

It would appear all the cooks and kitchen servants have to team up and brave dungeons, neighbours homes and wilderness camps to raid for salt, cooking fat and so on. Quite bizarre.

Some vendors do sell ingredients, cook merchant, in market places if anywhere, like one in the market of Riften, he sells tier 4 basic materials (flour, broth, malts etc) but not the flavour/main part, and is very expensive 52g if i remember.

But the means of provisioning is more complex and convoluted than alchemy.

What! and spoil the fun you're having looking in all those barrels and crates?
'Clever' sigs get old real fast - just like this one.

Anyone have any decent tips as to where I can farm salt with a relatively decent drop rate or do I pretty much just have to open every crate, barrel, and sack I come across and hope for the best? I mainly play Ebonheart.

Materials drops are random and there is no way to ''farm'' it. Onion/garlic dropping bosses doesnt exist in game. ;p It will be way worse then dungeon bosses farming i guess.
