You want them to do maintenance just to make you happy or do you want them to do well thought out maintenance that might actually have an effect.

You do not just do things haphazardly which is essentially what you are clamoring for.

    MLG has it right.

    No.

I want them to do maintenance every day until the performance issues are resolved if that's what it takes. I'm not asking for special treatment as your baiting post insinuates. I'm only asking why there is no maintenance when so many things need fixing.

They should be showing us they are working on the performance issues by implementing fixes. That requires down time for patching.

Not having maintenance when things are in this bad of shape makes it appear as though Zenimax isn't even trying.

It also requires coding be ready to apply to fix it. Taking the servers down for x amount of time a day isn't going to cure any issues, if there's no actual patch to resolve something. Despite what some seem to believe, there's no magical button to press to fix something, the issue has to be something they can replicate, and then analyze before they can fix if, and if they can't reproduce it, they can't fix it.

Contrary to your "baiting" claim, they do have it right. If the server came down, with no patch to address issues, the forums would explode. We only have to go back a couple of weeks to find at least one thread insisting that they shouldn't do maintenance during someone's prime time to play as well, despite time zones being a thing, and it's always going to be someone's prime time.

So, why didn't they spend the last week doing the coding that they could implement on regular scheduled maintenance day?

This is the shortcoming I am trying to point out. Not having maitenance at the normally scheduled time allotted for it makes it appear as though Zenimax isn't even trying.

Most likely, the devs can not replicate the problems most end users experience because they are playing on a dedicated server that is not grossly overpopulated and under the same operational conditions as the public servers are. In other words, the devs do not even have the ability to test and see how their work performs until it's released to the public on the commercially purchased servers for public use.

So, this is yet another data point that suggests performance issues are the result of the accounting department scrimping on the recurring costs of servers more than it is the devs not able or willing to do the fixes required.

They are doing some kind of animation caching and that is new to the performance things they are doing. They are releasing this to the pts tomarrow
So that means some of the biggest things is
Animation caching and the thing with reducing the effects of pets on the servers and a few other things too.
I do hope that this animation caching thing will help the servers enough to help performance. Along with the pet changes anything they can do to help it would be welcome.

What are non-combat pet changes going to do when the places where performance suffers the most, they aren't allowed lol.

    Not bothered at all.

I would imagine/hope that all the devs’ attention was firmly fixed on the PTS to ensure that Greymoor is as successful and bug free as possible.

There is zero benefit in spending energy developing and applying fixes that may be immediately obsolete in 4 weeks when Greymoor launches.

I’d rather have a couple of weeks of poor performance and a dramatic improvement when Greymoor launches than gaffer tape random fixes right now.

    Greetings all,

We would just like to remind everyone that all posts should be kept civil, constructive, and within the guidelines of the rules we have in place. Bashing and Baiting are violations of these rules, and are stated as such:
Bashing and Slanderous Comments: We do not permit the bashing of individuals (including ZeniMax employees), groups, or other companies on our forums. We believe that doing so is neither constructive nor in spirit of our game and community.
Trolling or Baiting: The act of trolling is defined as something that is created for the intent to provoke conflict, shock others, or to elicit a strong negative or emotional reaction. It’s okay and very normal to disagree with others, and even to debate, but provoking conflict, baiting, inciting, mocking, etc. is never acceptable in the official The Elder Scrolls Online community. If you do not have something constructive or meaningful to add to a discussion, we strongly recommend you refrain from posting in that thread, and find another discussion to participate in instead. It is also not constructive or helpful to publicly call out others and accuse them of trolling, or call them a troll—please refrain from doing so. If you genuinely believe someone is trolling, please report the post or thread to the ESO Team, and leave it at that.
If there may be any questions in regards to the rules, please feel free to take a few moments to review them here.

    Thank you for your understanding,
    -Greg-

No maintenance because they are working on fixes for the new content, of course there haven't been any significant life changing fixes for anything old in a very, very long time. Optimizations, but not real fixing of anything.

I am not expecting there to be any real meaningful fixes in a long time. The release of new content is going to add issues, always does, the people who fix things that are broken will be working on that probably until they start working on new content so don't expect what hasn't been fixed in 6 years, to be fixed any time soon.

Only way ZoS will start really working on fixing things is when people stop paying.

Stop paying, stop buying, stop subbing and ZoS might get it in their head that treating their customers like customers is probably a good idea, and that fixing things is even better.

How is it that performance is at an all time low and there is no scheduled maintenance tomorrow?

Things like this convince me that Zenimax's performance issues have more to do with simply not buying enough or high enough quality server capacity. Are we looking at a situation where performance will never be fixed because the accounting department has decided to put the devs in a box that is impossible to work out of? Is this why performance is always better at off peak times, then goes to the toilet as soon as zone populations go up?

The longer this goes on the more things look like we just aren't getting the hardware to support the awesome software the devs create.

They took the servers down twice last week. Often, if they do take the servers between scheduled maintenance days, they push the updates scheduled for the next week at the same time while the servers are down.

At present the game is playing like it's running through a cheese cloth or something, feels about the same as dialup in the year 1999.
