Templar Tank/Healing build

Hey guys,

I'm a returning player, used to be VR16 just before ZOS launched Tamriel Unlimited. As a hardcore fan of the $15 per month mandatory subscription, that caused me to leave the game for a long time but friends got me back in, despite the P2W changes since (imho).

Back then, I used to be able to run dungeons with 3 DPSs because I would heal so much I would essentially aggro everything, and so I doubled as both tank and healer. Is this still possible today? Currently my only character is level 27, and I've thrown all of the attribute points to health to great effect (I'm an Argonian). What particular skills should I be looking out for to try to make this viable? If it isn't, what should my two skill bars look like? I'm mostly looking at a veteran level PvE, because it is my understanding that for true hardcore PvE a DK tank is best, and that for PvP Templar shines as DPS, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you very much for your time!

I tried to be a tank/healer but I ended up just being a templar tank.

Ebon/Yolvakin + Lord Warden. S&B and Ice staff.
With tristat everything, I have 22 mag, 41 hp, 23 stam. and self buffed I have 34-32K resists.

If you are looking for a set that facilitates tank healing then Hiti's Hearth is one of the best for that but I'd be concerned if you could get enough hp or enough resources to do it effectively. You probably have to have a selfish set like Plague doctor to get enough hp to pair with it.

In short yes but it depends on your group. You can do it for normal no problem and the same for most vet base dungeons and DLC’s. The problem the DPS need some self-heals and try to avoid the damage and not soak it up like a sponge.

I've had some success with both Warden and Nightblade healtank. Some simple stuff really, SnB / resto staff for Warden, ice / resto for Nightblade.

This is a definitely yes for me as well OP, if you can get 3 other dependable dps, all is good.

I have an Argonian templar tank that can tank/heal at a very high level. I've gone in and main tanked a trial with him one night, and then the following night I played the same trial as a healer/offtank. You just have to wrap your mind around the fact that your not going to bring 100% of what a DK tank can bring to the table, so you kind of pick and choose what skills your going to slot up for certain scenarios. But my build is:

    Attributes:
    Health - 40
    Magika- 24
    Stam- 0

Monster Sets: Earthgore or Bogdan mainly, but Bloodspawn, Lord Warden, and Malubeths for certain situations
Sets: Kragenacs Hope or Shacklebreaker on body pieces, Lich or Spell Power Cure on the jewelry weapons. When I wear lich, I use Alessia's Bulwark sword/shield and backbar lich.

Basically set up my tank with HoT's, radiating regen, and Orb on back bar, then have a tank setup on front bar. Usually time stop, breath of life, Pokey Pokey S/B taunt, undaunted taunt, and the Magika Morph restoring light glyph for damage resistance.

I can swap silver leash for timestop if I need a chain, but tbh, mostly prefer running timestop.

With my setup I have around 33.5k health and 31k magika. Stam is low (around 15k) when I run Kragenacs + Lich, but is in better shape when I run Shacklebreaker + SPC. Sustain is a little tricky, which is why I'm an Argonian, but heavy attacks with Resto and well timed heavy attacks with S/B help keep your resources up.

I've mainly been running Shackle + SPC now since I was able to get a SPC S/B. Makes it really nice for 3 DPSing dungeons. It helps reduce the amount of buffs you lose by not having a healer or a tank with Yolo.

The most success of tank healing I had is actually on sorc, power surge + altar for 30 seconds group double HoT, energy orbs for some more heals+synergy.

But any class can do really. On Templar u can slot extended ritual and here you go, off healing.

You can absolutely build a templar tank that can simultaneously heal a dungeon group. You will most likely be giving up many of the common tank buffs and debuffs, but filling 2 roles honestly makes up for it and then some.

Short answer is: "yes, you can, but"...

If you relied on pulling aggro just from just healing before, that is not something you'll want to rely on. Maybe I misunderstood what you were describing, but you definitely will want to have an actual taunt on your bar. Controlling the boss and surviving some of the big hits they've put in the game is the big part of tanking on the newest hard mode vet content. For the original zone dungeons even on vet, it won't matter much, half the times groups don't even use a tank or healer in those dungeons, but when you get to harder stuff you'll notice if you aren't personally tanky enough and soft aggro won't always do the trick.

As for the class, yea, Templar is pretty good for that, though definitely not the best option necessarily like it used to be back in the day. But just keeping ritual down and an altar will be enough to keep the group rolling with hots while you do your tank thing.

It's usually just when I get to the hardest fights in the game that a class stands out a bit more than another. With that being said, my warden heal tank has felt best. I have him in Yoln/Olo so the group will get both the damage buffs and olo provides some better stats for me selfishly that in turn put me in a better spot to use more resources on healing the group or managing adds. The class has armor buffs for the whole group, pulls for mob control, a strong burst self heal that also heals a team mate, and a good AoE heal to throw down that can be somewhat passive and allows you to place it where you want, so if I'm holding something to the side, I can drop it on my team. The class has proved the most versatile imo for me at least, but I do think it's very do-able on Templar.
