Hello! From what I gather, the Greymoor chapter will also come with the long-promised localization into Russian, which some people are already testing on the PTS (personally, I haven't installed the PTS to save disk space, but I am eagerly following all news from there, and don't mind spoilers at all!).
This question *has* been asked before, but there was no official response from a Zenimax representative, and the thread has since been buried. So please allow me to take the liberty of re-raising the issue.
Will the localization be optional?
Or will it be automatically forced on all players who have a Russian IP and/or have specified Russia as their country when first logging into the game?
Another major videogame developer, Electronic Arts, for example, forces Russian players to play only in their native language, and ESO too has a special Japanese localization that you can't roll back from. Furthermore, I believe that other MMOs, once localized, forced Russian players to play in Russia only (though that's just a rumour I heard, because ESO is the only MMO I have hands-on experience with). Either way, there have been precedents of non-optional localization, so this is a legitimate issue to be concerned about.
While this is a wonderful addition to the game for many players, who have been looking forward to an official localization for many years, it'd also be nice for Russian players to be allowed to opt out of it and continue playing in English (or French or German for that matter). I am not certain how to get the matter to the devs' attention (I've also been tweeting on the subject, but with little interaction to far), but it would definitely be great to learn the answer straight from the proverbial horse's mouth.
