Aiming precision, or lack thereof.

This has been bugging me for a while. This game has always had a rather inaccurate targetting / aiming, but it seems to me that the past months, maybe past year, it has become WAY worse.

I mean, I'm aiming at an enemy and I'm actually hitting the one just nearby ? Allright, fair enough, my crosshair was right on the other guy, but ok, let's say it's some lag or whatever. But why the heck will I sometime hit, jump on, you name it, an enemy that isn't even remotely near my aiming spot ? And why sometimes not even on an enemy at all ? Like, you aim to the large enemy right in front of you, and you land on a tiny spider 5 meters behind it and 2 meters off that you hadn't even seen ?

And let's talk about aiming in front of you but hitting someting on the sides. Or even trying to interact with a crate that is right in front of you when you enter a delve, and actually exiting the delve because the game thinks you used the door BEHIND you and not even in your field of view...

Simply put : WTF is wrong with aiming ?

bind a key to lock target, problem solved.

Interacting with crates and NPCs has always been a pain in the ass. The hitbox for just talking to an NPC is a nightmare, I always end up having to jump and press X at the same time, and looting crates/sacks on the fly is pretty much nigh impossible. This game is a buggy mess, can't even play it right now because Zos can't sort their servers out.

ESO doesn't have tab-targeting in classical understanding of it, contrary to popular belief. Hitbox of the target doesn't become bigger if you tab-target it - sure, some skills (I don't think even all of them) will hit the tab-targeted box if several overlap, so you can, say, range-taunt a mob if a boss is right in your face, but it won't make easier to hit things. Attacks won't be magically drawn to the target if you tabbed it, you still have to aim in precisely same way as without tab target.

Not saying it is perfect, but I rarely ever fail to lock target on 1st key press - won't pretend I've stat tracked it or anything but as a guesstimate my success rate is easily 95%+

For the important fights, e.g. boss pulls, you are pre-locking anyways before the pull. I can't speak to OPs issue re: accidentally clicking zone out instead of the box/bag right next to it, but far as main issue of aiming or lack thereof, I stand by using lock target as a nearly complete solution (and with practice you don't really need it either since most LA weavers can quite easily hit their targets on a near perfect basis (e.g. 0.90 or better LA ratio)

**Edit- just though of something - been using addons so long not sure if default UI includes the mouse cursor aim reticle or not. Reason I said after practice don't need to lock target to hit near 100% hit rate is I just use the mouse aim point. Unless it's a mass add pull, have no issues - and if it is a mass add pull, cleave them all.

I've had 5 years to practice, mate, I'd be quite lousy if I didn't aim precisely where I want to. What I'm saying is that, despite having the mouse aim point spot on, it often hits something else entirely.

Something that is way out of the targetting area. Something I couldn't see because it was behind a very obtrusive target. Something that is 90° to the left or right of my target if they are close enough to my character, and when interacxting with items, sometimes it will interact with somethign that is behind me and I can't even see at all.

So yeah, most of the time I'll hit where I aim. But the occurences of that weird, completely off targetting are frequent enough that I will encounter several times a day.
