Molog Bal the Impossible

Shunyakaruna
So here is my issue:

I built my character for support; that was my initial goal. I played many MMO's before, a few examples being SWTOR, WoW, Star Wars Galaxies, and a few others. I know how to play a game; yes, indeed I am not an idiot.

That being said, this last fight has literally put me out for the entire game. Not only can I not bring anyone to help me - a rather poor choice for a character solely dedicated for support - but I'm left to watch myself fail over twenty times in a row.

Now, it could be that I'm just entirely inept. But what really grinds my gears is that the developers, in all their wisdom, somehow thought that having solo instanced dungeons was a good idea; let me tell you, no it was not. Instead, you have made a nightmare for characters who like to focus solely on support.

Please consider giving players the OPTION to be able to have others help them. Thank you.

If you can heal yourself that's half the battle. Just dodge his attacks and roll out of his heavy melee strike and chip him down slowly.

I made my sorc character primarily for damage, but I've also gone into healing/support.
A lot of the time using a resto and healing myself works better during boss battles than damage - it takes longer, but often works better.

This sarcasm? Because i run a sorc res staff and dstaff and i wiped the floor with him. He is just too slow, Keep your distance and wipe the floor with him.

If you're a support character, you're probably able to heal yourself.

Laugh as he hits you as you heal yourself, then laugh as he misses you while you run in circles around him.

I think this game was designed for this OP. I believe they wanted a somewhat challenging game, and wanted you to adapt and become better. I mean, if you think Molag is hard... VR content is going to chew you up and spit you out.

It's ok to have trouble... but instead of whining nerf, ask for help and see what you're doing wrong. Like everyone's saying... a heal, and a dodge roll pretty much beats him stress-free.

Thanks for the advice, everyone, and for not being too cruel with me. ;)

I did finally beat him after some research; essentially I used Disappearing Mist in its morphed form to give me speed to keep away from him and just pounded him with Dark Shards.

It was a long battle; and part of me still wants to "whine nerf," but I do see the challenge of making him a little OP.

It was just frustrating with my veteran lvl 1 sorcerer who is maxed out on all her skills and wearing full purple armor, and yet still, I was wiped; lessons for another time I guess.

Again, thanks for not castigating me too much ESO forums. ;)

The key to this game is to level many different skills and slot them depending on the situation. You almost always have a tool to deal with anything.

i beat him as a vamp, if anything he needs a buff, since the adds he summons do fire damage and theirs like 10 of them.

said screw it and just rushed passed all the mobs, actually made it to molag and now he keeps messing me up with that heavy attack, i try to dodge roll out of the way, but i just end up side stepping and he still hits me even if im to the side of him, and then he follows up with the frontal cone and one shots me.

Uh, the meteor literally can't hit you if you keep moving. And you should be 1 shotting everything except the titans, movement isn't hard.

Also you're supposed to block heavy attacks, not dodge them. The level 1 tutorial teaches you that.

@OP: By the time you're level 50 you should have enough skill points to be flexible between multiple weapons and playstyles. This game isn't designed for you to pick the 5 worst skills in the game with no synergy and still be able to win. Stop being stubborn and THINK, be FLEXIBLE, and ADAPT to the situation at hand. You might need some potions, but he's really not that hard to beat if you're not just doing the same thing over and over expecting it to work.

I killed him using blood altar morphed and dragons blood as I'm a DK tank. Was fairly easy tbh.

if you are a sorc at this point and don't have critical surge, you have done it wrong for 50 levels.

all you need is critical surge, a few mana pots and your storm atronach ultimate.

oh, you also need him to NOT BUG OUT 3 TIMES IN 12 HOURS HALTING ALL PROGRESSION while CS tells you to ROLL AN ALT

as a dunmer tank with 2k fire resist and greendragonblood i just stood there pressing left mouse button for 10 min and incidentally hitting my self heal.
Also becaus you do a *** amount of dmg, inhale with the mana back morf can be spammed permanently for infinite mana.
I can see how this can be hard for squishies though.
Personally i havnt had issues with any boss except the healer/dmg combo

Your damage is boosted, so is your block.

If you are dying on this fight, you're simply not paying attention to the mechanics of it. I beat it as sword/board DK.. and I'm a vampire, which means I take a buttload more fire damage.

The only two real tricks are learning when to block (and there are only two times it's essential: On Molag Bal's telegraphed power hit, and when the adds spawn as your divine power causes you to reflect projectiles and you can easily kill the Titans in 10 seconds), and never standing still. Fight can take as long as you need it to take as the add phase only seems to happen once, and the rest is simply about moving and not getting stunned by his power hit.

Playing the build above and I'm too squishy to survive its melee attacks, but at least the adds and that fire aoe are easy for me.

Prolly need to just test it with a random ranged weapon and spam silver bolts, lmao.

Just updating in case some fellow Assassin is struggling in the fight, so..

Took the very first Siphoning skill and it overhealed me so that I could just nuke it down, so what a silly fight? No self heals, No Molag Bal.

  • ksaggies04ub17_ESO2
I could definitely see certain builds having a lot of trouble (no range w/ no self healing). It's probably possible with almost any build, but as a sorc with v. curse and the first heal in resto staff - long, but easy fight. I kited in a big circle - used line of sight on the pillars, kept my heal up, and would run in range, cast my curse, and run away. As a sorc - I only had to get him to 20%, from there - fury spam for a few seconds. Dead prince.

I think if you were to try to go toe-to-toe melee style - it would be a much, much harder fight.

If you keep him at range, he never gets a chance to do his heavy attack. If you're caught in that, get away quickly because it hits fairly hard, and he follows it up with another pretty decent attack. Up close, he has some strong burst damage. At range, it's steady damage that can be easily healed through. If you don't have a quick, cheap heal - the fight would be much harder.

    Hope that helps!
