Non-combative pets that harvest your mats while mounted!

We all love our non-combative pets. As cute as they are, they do very little aside from looking cute. So, since it can be a little annoying to dismount everytime to collect mats, why not have non-combative pets quickly fetch the mats (that you interact with) for you while you’re mounted?

Edit: Clarification for some people who are confused. This will not promote botting. The suggestion is simply to streamline node harvesting while mounted. The idea is to still interact with each resource as you normally would but instead of dismounting to do it, your non-combative pet can harvest it (perhaps each with their own animation) for you while you’re mounted. This way you can ride along smoothly without constant dismounting/mounting when traveling across zones.

This is a great point. Making it easier for bots makes no sense.

Unless specific, separate nodes were implemented especially for these pets, this would be unfair to those who do not own a pet of this type. In fact it would probably require an entire rework of the system since it would be very bothersome to have a pet scramble in front of you when you're trying to gather on foot, or to have two pets go for the same node at once. What decides who gets the node, unless nodes are made individual per character?

Its not a bad idea and is actually rather adorable- I've seen "loot pets" done in other games and enjoyed having them myself, but in those games, crafting nodes were per-character. It would have to be done in such a way that it would not become P2W or disrupt the experience of someone who wanted or needed to gather on foot.

Sounds like something they should have for Skyrim. So I have another follower for helping with all the bandit loot.

Nah, too easy to be abused, as mentioned above, it can lead to botting, but more importantly, players that don't use these pets will suddenly find themselves at a distinct disadvantage, and if they're only certain pets, that you have to buy from the store, then it starts leaning heavily on P2W.

I guess the upside would be less people trying to buy Mundane Runes in chat, because they don't loot regular runes from the nodes because reasons... Although I do love laughing at them...

I wouldn't mind as long as you have to direct it to harvest the mat and then it would take it the same amount of time as it does for the player. Otherwise you would have some jackass racing around ruining the game for other players. Basically if only for the convenience of not having to unmount and mount constantly.

I think they should do something, but this idea needs a little work, because of the reasons people cited. Here's an alternative I just thought of: I think it'd be cute if there were a random chance for your pet to sniff out treasure. Maybe you have to stand there and wait for the pet to bring the treasure to you. It could be a random collection of things--vending items ("trash" or "treasure"), coins (a little gold), gunny sacks and lost backpacks, mats, etc. The paid pets should, of course, not be able to do anything the free pets can't, or have higher drop rates.

I suspect the reason pets don't do anything beyond follow and idle is that they designed them with very limited AI for performance, unfortunately. :( If they could figure out a way for them to do more, or ways to interact with them, I'd love it.

The non-combat boar allows you five more spaces of inventory account wide. It is located in upgrades.

I am sure there could be other useful bundles of fluff that can be useful, as well.

Maybe you should make a list of pet features @BoxFoxx

We have the artifact system, so why not a pet system earned in game or added in for players.

Most like would be a crown item but you never know. :)

That’s exactly what I meant. When you’re riding along on your mount, you point at the resource when you see it and the pet harvests it (maybe each having their own unique animation) instead of dismounting and mounting every time you come across a resource. I’m not sure why that wasn’t understood by these comments about botting. You still have to interact with the resource but simply don’t have to dismount. B)

Yeah, no thank you. They have that system in TERA, and its incredibly difficult to get some materials you need to craft gear for yourself because of that.
