ESO - a masterpiece we will never forget, despite all bugs, errors and lag

I just want to remind all of you that this is one of the best game ever so we will still play it many years and we will still buy any new chapter. So ZOS, we need you to improve this game, to fix all claimed errors and bugs, because I don't see other better MMORPG to come in the near future. ESO is our escaping world .. now and after "#stay home" time...
And ... not last ... Thank You ZOS for all your hard work and dedication !

The devs may have dedication, I'm still not too sure about that, [snip]
That's why can't really play during primetime and most likely never will, because improving performance would mess with their bottom line.

Edit: and of course, TES VI is coming in a little while, so they are just making sure they squeeze every penny they can out of this, you know, just in case... No more investment on ESO...

Maybe, but this game is really complex and not easy to manage, with so many mechanics and updates... All in all, I am really happy to have this chance to play it because it is just amazing.... And this is the reason we are still here after all...

It's a little while in gaming years, and investment too.

You know, I only see claims and aggressive reactions, but we forget to say "thank you" to this fantastic team. I have a job, I know what hard work is, so I understand how they are always working under pressure, because every few minutes somebody is claiming something here. There is lot to improve, but, as I said, this game is very very complex and hard to be kept in balance. So, after so many claims ... ZOS has a hug from me ...

It may be buggy and yes Sometimes I do bang my head with the performace of the game, but it is still an awesome game and the people/team creating it should be very proud of what they have.

Cannot wait for us to go beyond Tamriel in the future ;) So much of Nirn and beyond to explore. -throws money at the screen-

Its not the best game ever, the game is played because there are not much options to play in the genre at the moment. ZOS knows exactly that improving the gam eis pointless because people will leave when a new half decent MMO is released in the west. You will see, this game will bleed very hard end of 2020 first half 2021. Besides that, Lags und Bugs are part of the game, you cant just exclude them when you rate the game. Its an insult leaving Bugs for years in the game and start to improve game and serverperformance then when the game is almost completely on fire.

ESO remains ESO and other MMO can have its place, but few years in our lives were linked to this fantastic game ... That's all I wanted to say. But we just forget this and we forget to enjoy ... Negative mind is pointless ...

ESO requires a lot of patience. Like any successful business, I think they want to do well and they want to continue to succeed, but they have to live within the budget. There are only so many people who can work on things, and only so much time to do it. ESO is a massive game, and far too large for a development team of a reasonable size to keep an eye on all of it.

The ESO devs come off as people who like doing what they are doing, like doing it well, and like watching us run around playing what they create. They deserve the thanks that you have given them.

This is likely accurate. On top of that, I am wondering if Starfield and TES 6 were impacted by the need to go back to the drawing board with FO76 and add what should have always been there from launch. The rest of the game. I expect that ESO will get a lot closer to 10 years old before TES 6 comes out.

A noble and brave thread to post, which makes a refreshing change to the usual negatively and poison spewed out on here.

You won't see the Elder Scrolls VI until VR drops in price and becomes the norm. Just saying.

Listen, I'm not under the impression 6 will be out q2 2021... But how do you think this works?

That and starfiels is what the company is doing. This game's got an indy dev team with it by now... There's no performance overhaul this 6 year old game needs coming. ESO is chapters, dlc (all already mostly done btw) and loot boxes along some minor tweaks so it doesn't die too soon.

I'd de happy to retract if mistaken, but i'm not sure I'll ever need to do that...

An excellent and worthwhile post, well said.

I have said similar before and I agree with you. Despite all its flaws and areas that very much need improved, ESO remains one of the best games of all time, certainly one of, if not the best MMO of all time. That is why I am still playing, 5 years later.

Please ignore any negative, overly critical replies. Whenever I have praised ZOS or ESO, so often a torrent of negativity is spewed onto the forums in response.

ESO has GROWN into a masterpiece and ZOS becomes better every year at writing, quest- and area design, art direction etc. etc... it reads better, it looks better etc... they only have to get a grip on balancing and performance issues!

but ESO was a MESS when it originally launched it was horrible - but its fantastic how much it has grown and is improving

I wouldnt call ESO a masterpiece.
It had potential, but thanks to limited resources and maybe some other things it never was nearly as good as many hoped for.

I will never forget this game, as much as I may want to.

It is important that ESO be remembered, especially as a warning players and to future MMOs.

I agree op. People have been murmuring about new world, but I've seen no sign that its going to be substantially different/better than ESO. Still gonna have the annoying cash shop, no signs it's gonna be more immersive, etc. My guess is it will be full of bugs too but who knows on that one.

ESO has a awesome prebuilt world to take advantage of and an established community.

And I don't think tes 6 will make much of a dent on ESO. People who prefer the single player rpg experience would have gone back to Skyrim and Witcher by now anyway.

Ok, this is just statistics, but after all it's my personal opinion ... To me, this is in top 3 MMO ever, and I cannot wait the next ESO for multiplayer and the next ES for single player. I feel ES spirit deep in my heart.

    A masterpiece ?
    Absolutely not.

    A very nice experiment ?
    Sure.

I can't ignore all the bugs, imbalance between classes & builds & multiple performance issues even when there is is a lot of good features.
If they will fix the performance & most of the bugs & make the combat more balanced, then it will be time to speak of a "masterpiece".
PVP & endgame PVE are literally unplayable right now.

It is far from a masterpiece, every other MMO's at present are dull and old, this is a broken mess, they cannot fix, and are just milking for their other project.

This MMO now needs public shaming, just shut your crap down, you have had years to fix things.

Despite the bugs lately, it's still my go-to game during this quarantine. I've played it on Xbox, PC, and now on PS4, and I love it. I love taking it slow, love the skills (when they work), and just finding things to enjoy. The story is great. Summerset is my relaxation spot, I love that river and waterfall by the crafting hall.

That being said, there's A LOT that's been bothering me about it. Overmonetization has always been a nuisance in this game and it's frustrating things in the store that are typically earned in game in other games. No racial mounts can be bought with gold, which kills the immersion. Crafting motifs shouldn't cost more than the game itself. I shouldn't see the store the moment I zone in. It's needy. Like I get it there's sales, cool. I'm practically a lifetime subscriber and I'd love to play this game with friends without dealing with some crap about this game giving customers "choices". The monetization is a mess and it gets in the way of enjoyment. Sell me a game. Sell me an experience. Don't sell me more purchase options. I long for the subscription only days in this game, it really was a special experience.

The performance at this point is just unacceptable and I shouldn't be submitting bug reports daily in this game. I work in software development, and this is starting to feel like UAT. I completely accept that software is troublesome and buggy, I live that reality everyday, but don't do an incomplete overhaul and alienate players.

I've been trying to sell my friends on this game forever. They log in, they try to quest with me, and we can't see each other in the quest. Still. 5. Years. Later. How hard is it to peg quest progress to party leader?

So is it a masterpiece? No. It could be, though. They just need to take a look at the features that irritate players and rip 'em out. I get they're working on the performance and it takes time. But at this time, when everyone is home due to the world falling apart, it'd be bloody amazing to play in a world without that falling apart too.

In terms of content, the game has grown by leaps and bounds. Classes feel more fleshed out, there's a healthy-ish distinction between stamina and magicka roles/abilities, and the new zones are so fresh.
