Think future expansions will ever bring back schools?

I miss magical schools from other tes games... They occasionally get a nod in a dialogue snippet, but mostly magical schools are not a thing in ESO. They've always been a very central part of both lore and gameplay and it sucks that in ESO they're little more than headcannon.

Would you like to see them featured in a future expansion in some way? I'd like to hear your ideas about how.

My thought is that each skill in the game could be assigned a school. Each school would also get a passive skill line that would affect any and all skills from that school (so the conjuration passives could affect both sorc & necro conjuration skills).

I know this could complicate balance, but I'm desperate to get the schools back.

How else might schools make a reappearance?

I loved the Shad Astula questline in Deshaan. It felt like I entered another game (HP) but with eso. It was the most memorable thing for me out of the entire EP zone quests.

They are talking about the schools of magic: conjuration, destruction, illusion, restoration and so on, not universities you can attend...

Would be curious to know what percent of ESO players never played other TES games. Nothing wrong with that just curious what the player base looks like today. I assume back in 2016 a huge percentage were coming from Skyrim, but today there might be an equal number of wow converts.

Probably not. The Schools weren't formally codified until the 3rd Era, iirc.

Hmm good call, but it looks like the schools were starting to get codified during the time of ESO so it's conceivable -

Could even do an expansion about the mages guild adopting this new way of doing things.

I played a few hours of Skyrim on the Switch in November and about an hour of Morrowind a month ago but, apart from that, I haven’t played TES games. Never played any other MMO.

Gabrielle Benele of the Mages Guild has "written" a proposal on the Schools of Magic and submitted it to the Mages Guild, so it's conceivable we could see them in the 2nd Era. Of course, her proposal was to practically steal Shad Astula's system wholesale, and she included in her notes several disparaging and worrying remarks on the concept. It makes me wonder if she is actually against the Schools and was forced to write the proposal by a superior.

I like @worrallj 's idea. Of course, my main reason for wanting Schools of Magic is that they could come with Spellmaking, which is at about the top of my wish list for ESO.
