The perfected gear discussion.

With the recent discussion about perfected arena sets i was wondering, what if they are thinking of extending this kind of perfected non perfected idea to also other sets of gear in the game, like overland dungeons etc...

And i thought to myself, actually that would not be such a bad idea, but, there is a catch. At the end of the day, whether a system like this is liked or not comes down to how grindy it is, and i fear that if they were to make something like this it would be extremely grindy. Therefore not good, or liked overall.

But, there are ways to make it better, for example, a currency vendor, where you can buy the piece you need. There could be specific vendors where you can buy specific gear, and you get a currency which you can use to buy the specific sets you need.

For example, doing dungeons would reward a dungeon currency that would allow you to buy the dungeon piece of gear you want, doing overland, would give you an overland currency that allows you to buy the specific piece of gear you want etc....

This is just an idea, but if they were to do it like this, maybe it would not be bad.

This kind of system would fit well into a patch like one tamriel, and they could also give us a new tier of quality above legendary at the same time.

At the end of the day, it's all about how grindy it is, i feel like the maelstrom change wouldn't have been as badly received as it was, if we had a way to get it without rng being a part of the discussion. A bad rng protection system.

The issue is if they added a currency system it would likely be crowns.

doubling the the vast amount of sets with no bank space and no real benefit or purpose...geat idea NOT

this system should be focused on very limited sets like arena gear...and MAYBE trial gear

New content should drop new gear. Nobody wants to re-grind old content.

We pay our subs and buy cash shop items so ZOS can develop new content. This is a straight up scam right now. ZOS takes our money, doesn't develop new content, and just tells us to play content from 2015 instead.

The bank space is not a problem, because you when you get the perfected version you wouldn't use the normal version anyway.

What is the benefit in anything then? What is the benefit of progression? The benefit is that the game does not remain stale. What is the point of making new sets with the same kind of mentality when we already have perfectly viable sets?

It's all about getting the excitement for new staff vs how much grindy it is correct. if it's too grindy people will not like it.

I think the problem is that how they did it, is not a good way to incentivize people to run old content, wanting to make old content desirable again is not necessarily a bad thing, but it still old content, so you have to be careful with how you deal with it.

For example i think buffing old sets that were really bad, like succession is not a bad thing, that in my opinion is the correct way to approach this old content thing.

I've heard some people are sitting on 1000+ Undaunted Keys.
There's a demographic out there that does grind old content over and over. The might even like grinding vMA :shudder:

If they made a new arena and put the Perfected gear there under a different name. You'd grind that the same number of times till you were as sick of it as vMA, right?
Some of this issue is how it's framed.

They force us without any shame, to regrind vMA and vDSA. How can we be sure that they don't raise the CP cap on gear in future without giving us the possibility to upgrade our current gear? That would force you to run ALL of the old content at once and that seems to be the vision of Zenimax. I fear that this just a start and vMA and vDSA examples turn into dangerous precedense.

AND as a final slap in the face on top of that they fail to fix the server performance.

If they made a new arena and better weapons than MA, then people would still complain that they grinded vMA for nothing and bla bla. Remember Iceheart monster set? No matter what they do, people always complain. Be thankful that they didn't nerf it. It's the opposite, you now have opportunity to get even slightly stronger version. And if you dont like grinding vMA again, it's ok too, because the difference between perfected and non perfected gear is less than 1k dps ffs. Chill, you can still use the weapon you have now.

The problem with this maelstrom thing is also that they used to basically be the perfected version but then they nerfed it, and now they are making it again but we have to regrind it, and there isn't a system that allows us to rule out rng, this is i think the major reason why a lot of people don't like this.

I also don't to some extent, but they could do things correctly. Although i do worry that they will *** it up. because chances are that if they do decide to make a perfected version of every set of gear, they will not implement a way to make the grind not as time consuming.

Wait, iv'e had another idea, instead of the currency vendor, what if... we can upgrade our gear from non perfected to perfected through crafting? Either would be fine i think. It could be a completely new profession.

Or even better, what if, through crafting we could make perfected gear, but the bonus is not already selected by zos, but rather, we can add our perfected set bonus, as long as it's not a 5 piece, or a special buff like minor slayer. And if the piece of gear is already perfected and we want to change the set bonus we can at a reduced cost.

The problem is that they are trying to add new perfected sets, instead of editing the existing ones. And yes, we know it is possible to do.

A lot of times, they were able to alter / change how sets works, and those were automatically updated. When they have changed Iceheart set or Essence Thief set - I was not left with the previous one, but what I had was updated.

    So imho they should:
    - Change the name of "Maelstrom Weapon" to "Perfected Maelstrom Weapon" and buff the stats.
    - Add other item with different ID and call it "Maelstrom Weapon", copy-paste current MA weapon stat, make it blue and drop on normal.

Also, I don't buy "It is a technical issue" argument - because let's face it - it is not... It is not something that makes it impossible to do.
The only Technical Issue that might exists (if there are any) is maybe the name of the set. If this is the thing that they can not change (which I doubt), and the Set name is somehow hard-coded with the item ID, then simply name the non-perfected ones.... non-perfected.... Example - "Imperfect Maelstrom Weapon"

So: vMA will drop: Cruel Flurry ; nMA will drop: Imperfect Cruel Flurry etc.

Also, What pains the most is that vMA weapons once were perfected. Those weapons had a bonus dmg, but were nerfed. So basically If you have done vMA long time ago - you were "robbed" because you once had perfected vMA weapon in your inventory. Huge kick in the face for all the veteran player and even average ones that did the vMA and vDA.

As for the other sets, I see a lot of problems too:
    - Overland - Fine, gear is quite easy to get, but... how will you obtain perfected variant ? 1% RNG ? NOPE, Bad idea...
    - Dungeon on veteran dropping perfected variants - again, bad idea, same as vMA weapons with no auto-upgrade... it will cause even bigger s**t storm as significantly more player will be affected.
    - Crafting - This is where it will be least problematic, but it will also cause a lot of problems too - ppl investing time to farm mats to craft & gold out 3 pcs jewellery for example.

Tldr: Edit the existing stuff instead of adding new sets. If you have to add new arena weapons - it is better to add new arena with new gear, rather than nullifying time & effort players have put into completing hard content.

Would rather they make new original sets that are good in the first place, than making a second version of the same thing that has slightly better stats and bonuses.

Actually, the thing to do is simple. Consider the current gear to be "perfected". Do a database name change to add that word to the name. Add new "normal" gear that is is basically a nerf of the existing gear. Call it a day. Solutions like that are obvious, and I have to think they thought of that, so the real question is what is it that prevents them from doing it.
