You read that right. The Elsweyr upgrade that Zenimax sells DOES NOT come with Southern Elsweyr.

They are expecting people to pay extra for the Dragonhold expansion if you want access to Southern Elsweyr.

I have to say, this made me step back a bit and wonder what is going on here.

I would not have expected it to. Southern Elsweyr is a DLC and the upgrade would not include that. The fact that they are named similarly does not change that.

Right. It's not like it's right there in the name or anything. (rollseyes)

It was just like that the year before as well, though. Murkmire, which came after the Summerset expansion, was and is a paid DLC, too (if you discount the fact that you could get it for free as a daily log-in reward, that is), as are the two dungeon DLCs we get per year. You only buy the chapter, not the three DLCs that release in the same year. It probably just seems weird to you this year because Northern and Southern Elsweyr seem to be connected name-wise.

"Dragons return to Tamriel in The Elder Scrolls Online: Elsweyr, part of the Season of the Dragon year-long adventure! Explore the savannahs and canyons of Elsweyr, defend the home of the Khajiit from an ancient evil, and command the undead with the Necromancer class. REQUIRES THE ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE, SOLD SEPARATELY."

Yeah I think there could be confusion due to the Northern/Southern Elsweyr naming BUT none of the DLC is available on the store like the Chapers are. I suppose ZoS could edit to say "...the canyons of Northern Elsweyr..." but doesn't change the fact that the Chapter taking place in Northern Elsweyr is simply called Elsweyr and the DLC taking place in Southern Elsweyr is called Dragonhold.

For complete newcomers to the game I suppose the store could be confusing. Base Game and Chapters are sold there but DLC is not. New players may not know that a "year" is 1 Chapter, 3 DLC and that the DLC is available in-game via ESO+ subscription or crowns.

There is probably an article around somewhere to introduce new players to ESO and the ins and outs of the DLC/Chapter system.
