A quick thank you to assistful players

The explanation for why I typed this:
I just ran through Camlorn on my healer, who is now fully-leveled and geared. She was part way through the story there, and I remember always having to skip Camlorn while I'm leveling, because trying to hold off numerous werewolves and mages while the quest follower unlocks the towers or lights the fires, whatever it is, is an annoying and difficult quest objective.
Another player saw me when I jumped in to help them on the first tower and asked that I stay and help; I did. It reminded me of all the times I've had another player appear out of nowhere and help me through quests..

So this post is just a quick thanks to players who see others struggling in quests and jump to their aid, whether they're low-level, new and inexperienced, or just don't have the health/sustain/damage required for certain quest objectives. I've had many a time where I required the help and someone happened to be there.

Thanks!

Edit for the responses:
Thanks for noticing my post and replying! I understand some people would rather be left alone and fight on their own.. I'm just altruistism-focused or something, I suppose? I do love playing healers.

if I could make another character, their name would be Cries-For-Character-Slots. AKA, I need more.

Yes I also had a lot of trouble with quest bosses for about the first year or so. Whilst I can deal with them myself now, I'll always be greatful to those who stopped by to help.

Great post. This is what the forum should be all about. Hopefully things will continue to calm down a bit here after the last week or so.

I don't usually jump in unless someone asks, or if it's clear they really do need help. An exception would be if they're fighting a boss and it would take a while before the boss respawns.

Some people enjoy soloing difficult content, and even if it looks like they're 2 pixels from death they might actually have the fight more or less well in hand, so that can make it difficult to tell whether they really need help or whether they might get a bit sore if someone takes the kill away from them or leaches XP from their reward.

But if somebody asks for help in zone chat, I'll jump in and help if I'm not in the middle of something else, even if it means riding to the nearest wayshrine and traveling to the other side of the zone.

I remember one time there was this level 12 (?) player trying to solo a world boss and was pretty frustrated because they felt they were quite close to doing it. On one of their attempts someone apparently jumped in and mopped up the boss. He totally went ballistic of course.

If I'm on overland and I see a player taking some time or dying to a world boss I jump in (completed or not).
Many of us help out, we aren't cold hearted beings ;) You can disagree and point out hurtful truths but still be a decent person.

Yeah, it's hard to tell how someone will react-- maybe with "THANK YOU!!! <3" but maybe with something angry and caustic.

When I'm fighting MOBs overland or in a delve, it can look like I'm having trouble because my mediocre DPS and overall 2H fighting style means it takes me at least four times as long as most players-- and perhaps 20 times as long as some players-- to finish off the MOBs. But I'm tanky enough to be in no danger most of the time, and on my much-less-tanky PC EU main I can usually stay alive even if I get pretty low on health due to no burst heals like my PC NA main has. I actually enjoy a fight more when it takes a while and I almost get wiped out several times, because it's more thrilling and intense than just one-shotting everything in sight without breaking a sweat.

So I often get players running up and one-shotting the MOBs for me, for whatever reason-- they just want to kill everything for XP, they think I need help, they're doing the delve too and are just passing through on their way to the boss, they're trying to show me how a real player is supposed to fight-- who knows? But I never get disgruntled; I just move on to the next group of MOBs. In a shared game environment, it's pretty silly and rather entitled for anyone to think they can claim dibs on a boss or horde of MOBs, to the extent that they think they're perfectly justified in going ballistic and getting verbally abusive if another player dares to jump in and take a swing at the boss/MOBs.

If I run into someone else doing a delve-- or they run into me-- usually what I do is let them tackle some of the MOBs while I tackle some of the others. They usually end up finishing mine off before I can, since they're faster/"better" than me, but that's just the consequences of my chosen fighting style. :)

Heh. I would have KILLED to have people help me out when I was on crap satellite (as opposed to decent satellite - which is still high ping, and not so great - though it's enough better that I've actually managed to get through not only the entire MQ on my mains in the last month, but also the FG on my second account).

But gee.... no one bothered to ask (not that I would have had time to answer anyway) - and they didn't jump in (yeah, not an option in the MQ - but yes, could have happened in zone main quests...). And I died a LOT.... for the entire first year I played this game. I wound up just exploring, dodging encounters as I couldn't live over them for the most part, and crafting.

I enjoyed it. But it's really sad that I had to wait until now (almost two years later) to do the zone quest lines, because I couldn't manage the bosses.

The one thing that people like me never knew about this game until WAY too late is that combat is a *female dog* - and then you die. The other MMOs I played were far more forgiving for people without "twitch" as a reflex, and also without "real" broadband.

I think it's unrealistic to expect to have ownership of a world boss solo fight. It may be an assumption that the other person was trying to help, but even if they were, they were trying to do a good thing. However, the other person may have shown up with the specific intent of killing that world boss and all the better that they didn't have to face it alone. They have every right to jump in on that fight. They shouldn't be expected to sit to the side for the lengthy fight a one on world boss fight usually takes and then have to wait even longer for the world boss to respawn. It's just a reality of an MMO world space. Other people are going to want to do the same thing you're doing. If you want to solo something, you'll have to expect to do it more than once.

About the overland quest difficulty-- yeah, my very first ESO character turned out to be so underpowered (because I didn't know what I was doing when I was building him) that I couldn't complete a lot of the overland quests. Once I realized that he was just never going to be able to cut it unless I did a complete respec, I decided to make a new character, who is now my main. And even my main character isn't all that great; I just enjoy playing with him, and I took the time to make him a master crafter on all crafting lines, research all traits, always give him any new motifs or recipes or blueprints I find, etc.

The thing about not getting help when you need it is tricky, because people might say, "Well, why didn't you ask for help if you neede it?" but it's virtually impossible to type anything in the chat window while you're fighting for your life and it's taking all of your concentration and fingers just to stay alive.

Eh.... I WOULD have asked for help - had I had a moment to actually SEE someone else in the area. This game.... presupposes young reflexes.

    I don't have those. So I died a lot.

For us level capped, there's a fine line between helping low levels, and ruining their questing experience by bulldozing everything in sight. I've made an effort where, whenever I come upon a low level questing, fighting mobs or a mini-boss, I step back and let them work at it. Maybe I'll apply a debuff, or buff them, and assist if they become overwhelmed. I too remember my first year in the game and the times I asked and begged for help with really hard enemies. I try to pay it forward.

"Young reflexes." I used to have those, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. :) But it turns out I'm not quite old enough to qualify for those special seniors-only shopping hours that some stores have now-- which, perversely, they schedule first thing in the morning when any self-respecting senior is still in bed.

Heh. I get up at 6am (after having been awake since 3 am, trying not to toss and turn to not wake husband). So senior hours at 8-9 (even considering an hour to town - yeah, I live in the back of beyond lucky me) is already half my day wasted.

I actually only need about 5 hours of sleep. Any more than that is.... driving me up a wall. And that is entirely on husband. Nope, you don't want to know.

Eh, I'm 72... not EVER going to have young reflexes again. Hmm. Well, I didn't really have them when young. Some of us.... just never got that sort of thing....
