Why don't you use the Outfit System?

Sometimes I see very high level players (they sure know about the outfit system) refusing to use it, with the look of their current gear, completely red, not even dyed. There is no reason not to use it for high level player, since the lack of motifs/dyes or the cost isn't the issue. I'm pretty sure it's not because they simply like the default look/color of their gear. So is there a specific reason why you don't use it?

Maybe some people actually do like the rubedite/rubedo/ruby ash/ancestor silk colorations. I'm not interested in red in any version, but that's just me. I use outfits and costumes on all my characters, but it's certainly possible that not everyone has an interest in messing with all of it. Especially since it costs gold or RL money depending.

Probably same as using just some old simple costume or skely polymorp in raid which believed to be less of fps loss than using complex outfits and weapons with additional fx.

The only reason I can think of is the gold cost.

When I unequip my outfit I usually get startled because my char looks horrendous.

As one of those people who do not use the outfit system(CP 810). I have many outfits unlocked, but for me it just takes too much time away from the game itself. Not to mention I do like dressing up, but in a more simple way. That is why I always use regular costumes.

There is always something to do, leveling an alt, queueing research on different characters, daily quests, an event, master writs, etc, etc. This is basically the same reason I never have time to do surveys and usually let master writs stack up into the hundreds. There is only so many hours in one day, so customizing an outfit isn't really high on my list.

This is also why in character creation I put in one or two values I want in a specific way, and then 'random' till I get a great looking character. After it's creation when selecting a mount, I try to fit a costume, mount and pet in the same style. Depending on what fits the character.

The gold cost doesn't bother me too much, but it for sure isn't going to lure players in when it costs gold.

Edit: For the record, my characters look awesome with their costumes!

The people I've asked just don't care what their characters look like. One man's blasphemy is another man's apathy, I guess.

I've always gotta dress up my characters. First thing I do after skipping the tutorial - fashion.

These are my reasons for using costumes instead of motif outfits...
    1. tassets
    2. crotch curtains
    3. shoulders
    4. everything that clips and floats
    5. issues with dyeing certain pieces
    6. tassets
    7. scummy monetization of motifs and outfit slots

I am not a fan of whoever's designing this stuff.

I do create outfits but I have quite a few pet peeves with the system.
    • Cannot save created outfits. If you change them they are lost forever, forcing you to take external notes somehow in case you want to go back.
    • Due to the above, I would/could use additional slots to have outfits for different things, but the crown cost is extremely prohibitive and I refuse to pay 1500 for one additional slots for one additional character (I could buy a whole new character slot for this price!)
    • The low level of consistency regarding base materials makes mixing and matching a huge pain. I can find an look I like and then when I try to dye everything, I discover I cannot get them to look cohesive. So I just back out and give up, throwing away all the time I had spent so far.
A few of my characters have outfits (4 of 16 I think). I would do more but I have to be in a specific mindset since it requires a lot of patience to fiddle with these.

Personally i find that If i have paid hard cash for a look that I wanted from the crown store ,it really really really pisses me off, to have to pay in game gold, to use the hard cash paid for outfit. this may be a minor thing but its the principal of the thing .. so i simply refuse to use it.This is why i will not buy a outfit style off the crown store. I find the in effect double dipping into my coffers slimy

I find ESO outfit system limited, uninteresting and expensive compared to my previous game of choice. Also not fan of ridiculous fantasy medieval armour.

I do with Bath Towel and WW Hunter Hat until there is at least functionality hide unwanted slots to make simple costume.

For me and I'm sure many other players transmog isn't something we care about. The same goes for just about anything else in the game. For some groups of players a particular function is important for their game play and for others it isn't.

You can use the outfit system with the dozens upon dozens of motifs & styles in the game. You don't have to buy an overpriced Crown Store style book to use it. I honestly don't understand your argument. /confused

(for the record, half my characters use Costumes I've collected over the years, the other half use Outfits I built from motifs & styles I've gathered in-game. The anniversary boxes are great for filling out your motif collection. The gold price doesn't really bother me, because I've made one outfit for each character and don't change it constantly.)

edit: that said, extra Outfit slots are absurdly overpriced, and no-one should ever buy one. They should at least be account-wide. But they'd still be overpriced.

I have created a couple of outfits but if you have a lot of motifs and style pages, it is very time consuming and takes great patience. I have better things to do with my time (like play the game) and I am lacking in patience.

Sometimes I spend all this time crafting the best armor that I can and making it the style that I want. Since outfit slots are character unlocks instead of account unlocks I can't be bothered to spend the money on every single character to get a couple of slots. So instead I make awesome looking gear, dye it just right, and then go into battle. Still wish we can dye the weapons outside of outfitting, but if I do equip a costume I use my outfit along with it so everything matches just right.

I don't use it because it feels fake for me to go this way instead of my normal mixture of crafting and farming sets and then looking for a combination that will also look nice on my chars. If I use the outfit system it will be to change a style that I could not match otherwise. So in my case I like the old way of creating aesthetically pleasant combinations and fine tune it with the outfit system, but otherwise I do not use it.

I know when the outfit system came out, some people thought it was disingenuous to hide your gear. I'm not sure if that's still a thing.

Me, I love pretty princess dressup so I use the outfit system constantly. Shame about the cost (gold, or crowns, if you throw real money at it).

I'm really not sure what the connection between those two things is.

The main reason I don't use outfits is because it costs gold to apply an outfit style-- and not just a flat "outfit fee," but a fee for every single item of gear that you apply an outfit style to, with the amount of the fee varying based on the specific outfit style being applied. I've got better things to spend my gold on than making my gear look "special." I figure I'll eventually experiment with outfits, but not until some undetermined time in the future when there's nothing else left for me to save up my gold for-- buying multi-million-dollar player housing, crafting motifs I haven't learned yet, crafting materials that cost obscene amounts of gold at the guild traders, paying to respec my character, etc. Until then, spending gold on outfits seems like throwing my gold away on fluff to stroke my vanity. If there's some specific style that appeals to me, I'd much rather craft my own gear in that style than apply some kind of expensive glamour to my gear.

I always rock my natural gear & painstakingly go to the outfit station to preview a complete look before I craft new pieces in a specific style. This way, I can use the outfit slot to add / augment what I have already arranged.

My outfit slot is reserved for Minotaur Helmet motif ATM - but want to buy a 2nd Outfit Slot the next time they are on sale.

I refuse to pay gold to craft gear in a style that I already know. (not that it matters, will never use most of the styles)
If I know that style I should be able to craft that style including the color / dye.

I still have the original outfit token they gave us... lol

I do use the costumes though. I can dye them for free and they do hide the guild tabbards as a bonus.

Of course part of this is due to my just pressing "randomize" when creating characters.... that's how much I care what they look like. :*
