Is this immersion breaking?

No. What would be immersion breaking is grown adults t-bagging or using certain emotes to sexualise a child

Never bothered me or caused me to pause and ponder while I was questing. So not immersion-breaking.

Yes. But I can also cook every type of dish by stirring a single bowl and occasionally licking my finger, so I accept a certain amount of immersion-breaking things. See also: swimming in heavy armor.

It is immersion breaking in the sense that it's unrealistic to see a world with no children, but other than that it doesn't bother me.

It did ruin the 'surprise' in one quest though. A woman sends you off to find her "little boy" who is missing and hasn't come home and who she's sure has been kidnapped. Knowing there are no children anywhere in ESO it was fairly obvious right from the start this 'child' was going to be an adult, and therefore not really surprising that he was fine and simply trying to get some time away from his controlling mother.

But that's the worst of it and predictable quests are hardly a rare occurance in this game.

That one is actually realistic. Bathrooms are a relatively modern concept which would be out of place given the level of technology (magical and otherwise) in Tamriel. Although if you look out for them you can see their predecessor in the form of bowls or buckets kept near the bed.

T-bagging or otherwise sexualising adult NPCs is totally fine?

    ---

    "Breaking" is too harsh.
But yes, it's very unnatural. Esp. when quests require children, or a story involving children would've fit perfectly but couldn't be implemented due to the lack of children, but also as general background noise.

If this game would have children, they would be immortal and super annoying anyway, so what gives?

I think it is a bit immersion breaker. but I haven't let it bother me too much. ZoS probably has some child protection rules they need to follow which forbids adding children to this kind of game...

To me it is kinda lore-breaking. But more lore-breaking are all settlement sizes, tiny hamlets the majority of them, with almost no real towns and cities, being Abbah´s landing one of the exceptions.

Children would just be more annoying parrots repeating same phrases again and again and again and again and again and again and again with no Blade of Woe option. Why would you want that?

A little but not really, and I'd rather have no kids than see the twisted or perverse things that trolls would do if they were added to the game.

Do we really want to hear "I guess you are ok, but don't get on my bad side" from a kid like in Skyrim?- I certainly don't.

Nah, the wee ones would probably cause lag or some horrid performance issues.

Plus you have the unsavory sorts that would break your precious immersion in unspeakable ways.

    Sad but true :/

It's very wierd when your doing a quest and halfway through you realize the hulking nord you just rescued was supposed to a tween, but that's thankfully rare.

At least Skyrim has mods to "remove" children. ;)

Yep, many have, and many will continue to notice it.
    Cladius30 wrote: »

Nope, far ftom it. As well, it could be said that during the 2nd era's continuous conflicts, the children were, of all kingdoms and lands of intrest, were sent away (similar to how British families were in WWII) for their protection. In remote, undisclosed locations so the future generation can be safe.

While it would be an interesting concept if they were added in. Although, we don't need players pretending to be Albert Fish in ESO by adding them in either.

Luckily, I don't suffer from this affliction. Makes it much easier to just enjoy games.

Of course that isn't OK either, but you KNOW it's not the same thing.

I'd actually never noticed the lack of children til the forums mentioned it a while back. So no, not immersion-breaking at all for me. Plus, they're annoying as hell in Skyrim, and given ZOS' penchant for annoying, pesky NPCs ("DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU?!?!"; "Can you believe it? DRAGONS, in your own homeland....") can you imagine how awful it would be to have the kid from Dragonsreach in Skyrim following you around a town ("Another wanderer here to lick my father's boots?). I'd lose my [snip].

I will never really understand the immersion players, but no. Having kids around would be weird.

I do have a question for the immersion crowd. Why is the "where are the kids" question always the go-to instead of "why are there only 3-5 houses for everyone to live in the major cities?"

Having children in the game would be good thing, but that's just my opinion. I don't want to get into an argument with someone who thinks otherwise. I see no reason why it would cause any harm. Pixel children can't be harmed. It's all just pixels on your screens folks.

Well, the semi-official stance is that Skyrim's children weren't liked and so ESO didn't want to fall into the same trap that Skyrim did were people tried to do horrible things to the children there but their immortality only made them even more annoying.
However, for what little time I played WoW (Legion and BfA), I noticed that WoW actually managed to make the children likeable. More of "Arrr! Do I sound like a pirate?" and less "Another wanderer here to lick my father's boots". So if done well, this could work.

I wouldn't go as far and say it is immersion breaking. Immersion is really only ever broken when something happens that wouldn't happen in a "realistic" (what's meant is logically sound or consistent) world. You can go out in the street in real life and you don't see many children around unless you go looking for them, so the lack of children doesn't immediately break the immersion in any instance.
Only when all these instances are looked at as a whole it starts looking strange - a reverse mosaic if you will.
