I've dabbled a bit with housing via previews, research, and the free Halls of the Lunar Champion, but houses are practically useless except as an exercise in decoration.
The most useful place is the South Morrowind base in Cyrodiil. It contains: wayshrine, banker, merchants, stablemaster, every single type of crafting station, outfit station, home furnisher, war researcher, and gold vendor, all of which you can use free of charge at any time. No other place in ESO is set up better than this particular spot.
It is a FREE port (no timer) from ANY place in Tamriel for any character level 10 or higher. Simply press 'L' and port.
Some people argue houses allow you to have a target dummy for DPS calculations. Guess what? In Cyrodiil the whole zone is full of target dummies!
I unlocked all the rooms for the HotLC, and clearly its the best house value in the game. Hands down! But it doesn't have the functionality of South Morrowind.

✭That might be so for Pact players (who are also much into pvp).
There isn't a truly ideal place in the game featuring all the said utilities, and that is by design, because if there was such a place, everybody would use it. Erm.. something like Vivec City
but that lacks a dye station.
I would like to have the crafting writs board in my house, or in guild castles, if the devs implement this much requested feature.[PC/EU] Tamriel Hero, Stormproof, Grand Master Crafter0 -

✭✭✭✭✭Well, Vivec has an outfit station but it's loading screen after loading screen to get to. When I need to use one in a hurry, I wayshrine from Vivec to Ebonheart, use the outdoor one there, then travel back to Vivec. Quite a bit faster than going clear to St Olms and through two slow-ish load doors - at least for me, wayshrines are never as slow loading as interiors.Edited by Sylvermynx on April 7, 2020 1:38PM1 -

Humblemud has all the crafting stations, merchants and banker in a building opposite yours.
Snugpod has a horse trainer right outside.

The Hollow City jewelry station is coming in a future (as of yet unknown) update, @SirMewser. ZOS confirmed it recently.0
