Free play PC question

I own the game both on Steam and digital. I use different accounts for each. I wanted to create another account to play during the free play weekend on the digital installation (not the Steam install). When I create a new account online I don't get a link to the game, and I don't get a free play code for the new account. How do I get a free play code for the new account?

Greetings! Are you attempting to create an account for the Free Play event using this link?

It is important to not create the account without using that link. If you create the account in any other way, you cannot use that account for a free trial.

I had not. I went back and created an account using the link provided. I got an email with a code for the trial. I logged in to the website and saw that I had an active trial account associated with the user name. When I then try to log in to the game client using that user name, I get a "Login failed. Your username may be incorrect or inactive at this time." error.

Did you try more than once to log in? Obvious question, yes.

Multiple times throughout the day. Just tried again now, still the same error.
