Dear ZoS,

You have posted a new update on your website about Greymoore. It is as if you, and this is of course the case, just totally ignore the problems that are destroying the EU server and the enjoyment of many paying players. Instead of giving ANY acknowledgement as the tragic state of the game, except [snip] things like "we are aware...." you just say: "Our player population is larger than normal right now as many of you are stuck at home[....] We’ve had some really fun ESO events this month, including our ongoing Anniversary Jubilee, so we will all be watching for any issues caused by an already large population playing ESO getting even larger."

Are you really kidding me? [snip} So {snip] all of the hundreds of topics and reactions on the forum and by the content creators on YouTube about how bad the game performs EVEN BEFORE THE WHOLE CORONA CRISIS? Let me remind you again:

- Unplayable Cyrodiil instances
- Game breaking desyncs in Trials
- Desyncs in dungeons
- ping going up and down like crazy during the day
- massive amount of disconnects by many people during trials and other activities
- and many more...

And your only reaction is "...were watching for any issues"? And delete threads or reactions of people who are dissatisfied with the state of the game? [snip]. No other words for it.

Except, these aren't personal concerns. These are concerns that affect the gameplay experience as a whole within the community. Before you mention it - judging by your comment, I'm sure you will - you're the one person that has not experienced any of the listed performance issues.

    personal concerns lol

the game's performance is markedly worse in pve and abysmal in pvp. there is ability delay everywhere. this impacts anyone not just starting in the game and has generated tons of threads here. the reality is the game is in a really bad state, performance wise. does everyone notice? no, not everyone. but enough of us do that it has clearly become a major problem that is beyond just a personal concern.

While the OP isn't wrong, and everyone should voice their concerns about issues they suffer from/through in game. The OP on the other hand does lack tact, and expect the thread to close before the day has ended cause of it.

Changing title to less of an attack towards company, focusing more solely on said issues so the community can focus on those instead of baiting each other into belittlement and flames.

you are 100% incorrect. U26 is Greymoore, 27/28 are DLCs. They are not performance fixes exclusively . They will include performance fixes - just like U25. Unfortunately, U25 ruined the game for many of us, so performance fixes are a bit of a meme now.

U25 was supposed to be performance improvements, as well, but it ended up introducing most of the desync and lag issues we are currently experiencing. Liuterally, we had to redownload the client to play a broken game, because of the "performance improvements" they had made.

It's painfully apparent that ZOS changing the wording of the road map amounts to little more than lip service.

Are you aware that we had a patch shrink the size of the game for performance reasons that actually caused it to be worse? What gives you hope the next performance updates are even gonna do anygood? High chance of them doing more harm.

    Q2 2020: Update 26

    Server Optimization & Stability

Non-combat Pets: We are rewriting how non-combat pets are handled to be more performant (work better, more efficiently, and take up less overhead/resources on the server. Internal bug fixing is underway. This work is on track to release with Update 26.

Player Character Loading: We are making the player character loading process multi-threaded on the server to improve performance. Internal bug fixing is underway. This work is on track to release with Update 26.
Client Optimization & Stability (previously named - Frame rate improvements phase 2)
Multi-threaded Fixture Creation on the Client: This work centers around how art assets are constructed and drawn on the client, ultimately spreading this work out over multiple cores. Internal bug fixing is underway. This work is on track to release with Update 26.
Fixture Creation: This work is complete and on track to release with Update 26.
Character Update: This work centers around how characters are drawn on the client, spreading work out over multiple cores. This work is complete and on track to release with Update 26.
FX Update: This work is complete and on track to release with Update 26.
Behind-the-scenes Combat Ability Improvements Phase 3
AoE Ability Performance on the Server: This work focuses on making these ability types more specialized so that they are more efficient on server performance. The code work is complete – data work has been shifted to Update 27. The current focus is on tracking down current issues on the live servers. Note: The overall player experience for these abilities (damage/functionality) should not change.

    SNIP

Ahaha. you do realize those are the *performance fixes* in U26, right? you know what the *main scope* of U26 is, right? Greymoor and its associated content - not performance fixes.

you may not have noticed the decline in performance, but it is present. it is universal. the more risk there is of dying if you miss a skill or buff, the more you notice it. that means in a ton of pve content, it is not as noticable - the game feels less "smooth" but you may not even realize why.

but in more difficult content it IS noticable.

You can copy and paste all you want, but it really doesn't mean anything. And, I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you're experience the issues, as well; To say you aren't would be asinine. I'm willing to bet you don't understand what's actually happening with the lag, desync, misfires, etc, so you are just innocently ignorant of it. That's not an insult in the slightest bit, either. Either that, or you are aware, but you just want to be contrarian to defend ZOS (i.e. ESO) for whatever reasons you may have.

I think the sad truth is that ZOS really doesn't know how to improve performance. They tried a few things that completely backfired and my guess is that they are completely lost. Maybe the people who originally programmed the game have moved on and the people who replaced them aren't as skilled but it's painfully obvious that they don't know what to do.

Notice how the language has changed over the last couple of years.

ZOS used to post things like "We have discovered an issue that is causing a performance problem and have fixed it."

But after months and months of failures, we now get posts like "We have discovered some things that MIGHT be causing performance problems and have fixed them."

But when that didn't work, they post "We have discovered some things that MIGHT be causing performance problems and have some changes that MIGHT fix them."

And after the U25 debacle, we get "We are testing some things. We have some ideas we may try."
This discussion has been closed.
