Xp at a dolmen without doing anything

I was grinding some exp at a dolmen when I noticed a player that did nothing but was earning exp and loot. The player would ride up on a mount, and through the entire dolmen event they never dismounted or attacked the mobs, but would then dismount and loot the chest. I also noticed that while mounted the player was getting hit with the aoe attacks you get hit with when you are attacking and stand still for too long.

How can a player show up and never engage the mobs, aggro them, gain exp and loot?
How can a player never get off their mount and do attacks?

I would like to know how they do this, I would love to ride up, sit, get exp and loot, and then ride away to the next dolmen.

Are you saying they are in a group? That being in a group allows a player not to attack mobs but earn aggro, and so the loot and exp?

What advantage does joining a group with the player do for me?

Your response must make sense to you, but it doesn't to me. More info please.

Getting hit by the AOE lightning actually counts as "participation" and qualifies you for the reward.

I was mounted right next to the player that I'm writing about, but I was never hit with aoe's. Was I standing in the wrong place?

Not trying to be difficult, I just want to know how this happens. I tried to emulate the player and had no success. Is there something in the game I don't know about or haven't experienced.

    Thanks for the reply's

Hmm usually if you just stand still the aoe will target you. How long were you standing still? And if you were literally right next to them you should have been in the aoe too?
In the worst case you could walk into one and verify that getting hit, but doing nothing else, will work. Test to see if at least that works.

type +dolmen in zone chat in alikr or auridon. you will get a group invite, join it and then will get exp and fighters guild rep for doing nothing. you're welcome :)

Did the other player have any combat pets?

Also, I believe there are certain sets that will reflect some damage back to the attacker-- and for all I know, there might even be some other ways of doing that sort of thing.

OP, how many people were actively involved in the dolmen? Was it less than 12?

That is the only way of which I am aware that someone who didn't actively contribute to the overall damage would be eligible for a part of the reward, because only the top 12 damage dealers (at least in a crowded, greater than 12, field) get a piece of the pie.

    Is this still true?
I know I am not one of the top 12 on most dragon fights....and alot of Dolmens, and I still loot every time.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it doesn't work that way. I get a reward every time in groups of 24, Dohlman's - and no way I'm top 12 on all those occasions. One time I came late got one hit in and was able to loot chest and ending XP.

If it doesn't work that way anymore, then it's a recent change to the way it did work.

@flowyarg the first reply did answer your question. As long as you are in a group that is doing this Dolmen you will get the XP for the destruction of it, but not the XP of the monbs itself as long as you don't hit them. That he could loot the chest is weird though, maybe he placed an AoE on the boss, that would be enough to get the chest.

And if you wonder why anyone should want this guy in a group, there are entire dolmen runs like that in Alikr Desert, there are 24 people in the group and no one cares if a part of that group does nothing, they are actually made to level without much effort.

About the time you started seeing players do the Alik'r dolman grind is when they changed the rewards to anyone who shows up and participates in some way, gets a reward. I think the reason was to give newer players a way to catch up to vet players with max cp.

Join a group and let the group do the work, this is better option for me as the time a single mob loads in the dolmen has finished, so I just stand on the boss location and drop AOE and hope I get a few hits in ( if not in a group )

I actually like doing Dolmen's so standing seems boring no offense. I enjoy it less in Alik'r because the thing gets done so quickly with so many people.

I thought that the "only top 12 dps gets rewards" thing applied to world bosses, not dolmans and dragons. I've gotten loot from every dolman I've participated in, and every dragon. But since I'm not that great at dps I have been excluded from receiving loot when more than 12 were in a world boss killing group. And I don't mean that we were grouped together through the game; I mean it was just a bunch of people who showed up at the same time. Has any of that changed? It kind of sucks for me during events involving world bosses. It means I can go up and kill them without having to spam chat for a group, but there are so many people there that I don't get rewards.

Isn’t it the top 12 for the final dolmen boss, but no limit on the chest at the end, so long as you’re close enough to the dolmen?
Edit: the limit applies to world bosses (just look at the threads from the Murkmire event) but not dragons. Arbitrary and not explained well in the game, as things usually are in ESO.

Ah. Right; World Bosses. My bad. I knew there was a 12-player limit on something.
