A different question: Why are Roleplayers always hated so much?

And often seen as players of lesser value and/or importance?

Would love to know why people say & do what they do, and why do people get so easily driven towards ruining RP.

Because some people think if your dps is lower you're trash and usualy roleplayer are stereotyped to low dps

I can see that reasoning apply, but funny enough... It couldn't be further from truth. Some of the people I roleplayed with weren't only the best DPS I've ever met but also kicked butt in PvP. 😑

Nobody “hates” roleplayers. What we dislike is having our entire chatbox bombarded with your erotic roleplay (gross by the way) every time we enter a tavern to turn in a quest.

    Holy crap LOL

ERP has absolutely NOTHING to do with regular roleplayers...

But if we get associated with that sort then everything is finally starting to make sense. We don't like them and don't associate with them either.

    That's just sad ☹️

I don’t hate them, but they can be rude when they:

Spam the forums despite their threads getting closed
Spam chat and think that /say chat is there’s exclusively
Overrun popular areas and tell others they should just leave
Expect zos to hire people just to protect their play style
Not having respect for others play style while demanding it for theirs

Just a few I could think of

A few spoils the bunch. Yeah I can understand that. Not all of us are like that. Majority of us won't interact with you unless you specifically choose to ruin our game.

For giggles, I went to Fells Run last night and watched for a bit. I saw numerous gross ERPs. You do know that some of these people they are ERPing with are children, right? “Roleplaying” isnt an acceptable excuse for that disgusting behavior.

I reminded them to wash their hands, and not just because its corona season.

    No one hates roleplayers.

They might dislike there being thread after thread of complaints by them, especially when there are easy solutions available in-game.
They might dislike them wanting things removed from the game that is part of a once a year event.

    But no one hates them.

You don't have to worry about that. I think that hatred is experienced by those who can not admit to themselves that they are playing an RPG, but this is already a problem. I also don't think that everyone feels hatred.

I'm just sad this kind of stuff paints us all wrong or as ERPs. I never ERP'd in a GAME once in my life. And I've been roleplaying for over a decade. AND If I'd ever want to ERP I'd at least make sure it's private and with an old enough person. Wtf.

I leave that out for real life, with real people I actually know or date or meet with. 😑

    Sigh.

I don't mind them. They aren't as intrusive in this game and seem to keep to themselves. I'm pretty accustomed to RPer shenanigans tbh, when I played FFXIV I was on Balmung

As long as you aren't ERPing in zone and say chat, we're good. And yes I know most RPers don't do that, but if you were ever on Balmung you would know we've seen some ish.

It's not my thing, but to each their own. But trying to get people banned off momentos

I think it's an easy problem to diagnose. There's a certain kind of narcissism that RPers seem to have. They think they can monopolize chats and game areas (from the sounds of all these posts) that are meant for everyone. They also seem to think everything is intentional done to them and they are being sought out and hunted because of RPing.

I think the biggest reason (especially recently) is all the forum posts with threats about TOS and trying to get people banned. It doesn't help your cause to threaten people or to constantly give ultimatums and point out punishments for things like mudballs or jumping around players which seems to be the RPers go to first reaction.

They cause lag and crashes with their big groups of roleplaying all over the place, I can't even turn in quests sometimes because rolepayers are in the way roleplaying with the quest giver.

They should probably be thankful that ingame Chris Hansen isnt popping up in taverns to ask them what they are doing in the corner with Timmy the Young Adventurer.

I agree in part, but we can't assume about the types of thinking and how diverse they can be, having one head on their shoulders and one life.

If you are asking why players choose to harras RPers doing their story in an out of the way location, it is likely because they live a pretty sad life and harras other from the safety of their home.

If talking about oddly built playstyles in group content it is likely because they are doing low DPS or at least perceived to be doing low DPS. Still, any decent player would be able to carry them through most content.

Gonna get personal for a bit...

Once upon a time, when I was playing a popular superhero MMO now long gone, I had a couple of characters who I designed to look like robots. Now, I'm not a roleplayer, but I found that the server I played on happened to be a RP one, albeit a light one (as in RP wasn't enforced nor were you kicked if you name wasn't "lore friendly")

I would receive whispers ingame admiring how my characters looked. Ok, so far so normal. It wasn't until I was invited to a guild in game, where the guild leader immediately starting hitting on my character, making...improper comments about my toons " equipment". It's a fricking robot made to look like something you'd see on a Saturday morning cartoon. I was pretty weirded out, so I left the guild and logged out.A couple more similar incidents later, I ended up deleting those characters and decided to stick with more generic looking characters.

Despite this, I don't hate roleplayers. I knew this was just some very...unusual people I happened to run into. But I wonder if similar incidents happen more often than I realize and if this is why roleplayers have the stigma of being associated with ERP and other, darker proclivities.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Tbh is openworld rp a thing anywhere in any abundance? The last time i ran into some rp'ers was years ago in a house in riften that you had to go into for quest advancement and there was a pack in there and they told me i need to leave as soon as a walked in. To me it kinda established rp people as unnecessary entitled people who would dampen other people's gameplay for the sake of their own, but with housing and guild chats ive havent seen rp in years so i assumed it was self contained anymore

Ah, so your other thread gets locked and you make another one?

Keep spamming the forums with "muh RP" threads.

That'll get people to like you for sure.

Ugh enough with all of this, it's getting boring now.

For god sake just find an isolated location and avoid big areas with lots of players, how hard is this? It will prevent your immersion breaking and encountering mudballers and trolls.

Uhm, no thread of mine got locked, what are you people still on about?

I make my very first and only 2 posts about RP, 2 I've ever made my entire life btw, and everybody goes "STOP MAKING 100 THREADS ALREADY WHEN YOUR FIRST ONE GOT LOCKED". What gives?

Just joined in on the topic because it seemed like people are just giving RPs a really hard time for no reason.

These forums are one of the weirdest places, I swear.
