Ria Silmane ???

What do we know about Ria Silmane apart from her role in the Elder Scrolls Arena?

Is she assumed to be an Imperial since she worked in the Imperial City? Is she perhaps a Breton due to her magical prowess? Or some other race? What cultural naming conventions fit the name Ria Silmane?

Is she connected to the Ria NPC in ES V Skyrim? Is she mentioned in books or by NPCs in any of the games?

How well did she know the player character, the Eternal Champion, before the start of the game?

Well, unfortunately the name was not indicative of anything back then :/. I thought she was Altmer, but that was just my personal impression... based on nothing, to be true.

@Ye_Olde_Crowe is right - names often do not indicate anything. Two guys, Ogrumbu gro-Bugarn and Yagrum Bagarn have very similar names, but the first is an Orc while the second is a Dwemer. There is a theory that the Orcs are the degraded Dwemer, but that is only a theory that has some cons with historical facts. The same way Silman is a traditional Bosmeri name used in Arena and Daggerfall, but as you know it, OP, those names were constructed by using certain prefixes and the name building ways changed since TES III. I'm not aware of any certain information on Ria except that she was a senior apprentice to Jagar Tharn, our tutor in Sorcery and friend. Other information is of a theoretical status. There are some theories that the Staff of Chaos is actually the Staff of Towers, King Anumaril and Umaril the Unfeathered are the same person, that Ria Silmane is Meridia herself, etc., etc.. But these are just theories ;)..

Interesting. I like some of those theories, but I have a hard time buying that a daedric prince would be so confined and unable to do more. I doubt she's Meridia. The Silman Bosmeri name is interesting too. Well, I guess we can at least rule out Khajiit, Argonian, and Orc...
