Magblade Sets

JackSmirkingRevenge
Evening all,
I was wanting to get some advice regarding magblade sets. I am currently running mother's sorrow body set, but am struggling to decide what I should run on the front bar. (I have a maelstrom staff back bar already). I have not done any trials yet so I know false god siroria would prob be the best but without that, what would I run? It seems BSW wouldnt work well on magblade bc it procs off fire damage. What about spell strategist?

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks!

BSW or New Moon Acolyte are going to be your best options. BSW will proc from light attacks, Wall of Elements, fire enchant and burning status effect. You can run either set on your front bar so if you don't already have a BSW fire staff I'd just get a Mother's Sorrow staff. If you go with NMA just run that on your front bar since it's craftable but you'll likely want Mother's Sorrow jewelry.

Spell strat is a decent call, especially if you are looking to up your single target damage. And @Danksta is right. BSW is a great set for magblade

So right now I am running new moon acolyte and Scathing mage front bar.

Would BSW out preform scathing mage? figured with all the direct damage attacks scathing mage would preform nicely now with the buff

The short descriptor for Scathing Mage leaves off one valuable piece of information that is included in the longer description below:
Scathing Mage is a light armor set. When you deal direct Critical Damage, you have a 20% chance to increase your Spell Damage by 516 for 6 seconds. This effect can occur once every 6 seconds.

While it says in the box "direct damage" its really direct crit damage that procs the set. So in reality, it depends on how high your crit chance is. The short answer is BSW is better because it is easier to proc. You can check this thread out and it explains it better:

They changed Scathing Mage so that it no longer requires critical strikes to proc, @El_Borracho ... as of the Harrowstorm update.

Ya and the research and other build guides I saw, Scathing Mage was pretty solid.

Basically I am having a real hell of a time deciding which sets to go with between the ones I have, New Moon, Scathing Mage, BSW, Mothers Sorrow, Spell Strat (for Single Target)?

Everything seems to recommend Mothers Sorrow but with it my crit is damn near 75 percent and my spell damage seems low as ***. Unbuffed my Spell damage is below 2k.

I wish there was some type of sim tool :)

Master architect is still a really good Set for magblades.
Especially If u run in a full Magicka Group.

Mothers Sorrow, false god, nma, spell strat and siroria are the other good Options, (Most are already Said) depends on the Situation.

Personally i don't really like scathing mage.
The proccrate isn't that great even after the Changes. Tried it as a full Set (Not Frontbar only) and used Force Pulse as spammable .... got around 60-65% Uptime. Even in my best try i had only 72% (Out of 10 trys). If you only Frontbar it, proccrate is around 50-55%.
