Is there a way to remove the NPC subtitles from the chat box?

I'd like to keep subtitles on, but this is either a stupid feature added in or an annoying bug. Can we please add an option to remove it, because I'm not seeing it in the settings.
On PS4, btw.

In the Chat options there should be a box that you can check/uncheck for npc subtitles.

Right, but on or off doesn't matter, the subtitles are still entered into the chat box, so they're both on screen and in the box.

Hmm, I have subtitles on and I've never had NPC dialogue show up in the chat box.

It might be a setting within the chat box options. Check there and see if there's an option you can clear.

Many of us who are deaf (not all but many) do enjoy this feature - so, not really stupid.

You normally have to enable it first on one of your characters through your chat options for it to take effect across your account (even past deleted toons that had this enabled could probably carry the feature over.)

Thanks for the pictures. If I was at home I could have done step by step, but unfortunately I'm not.

I keep the npc chat on. Some of the npc "idle" remarks can be interesting, and hard to hear. Other remarks I only wish were hard to hear....

Many of us who are deaf (not all but many) do enjoy this feature - so, not really stupid.

I am nearly deaf in one ear, this is why I have them enabled, but having them both on screen and then cluttered up in chat box at same time is annoying to me.
Anyway, I turned them off and on again and now it doesn't show them in both, just on screen.

Edit: Nm, they are still there, seems to be only background NPC chatter, not dialogue when you interact with them.

But, yeah, the chat box jibberjabber will only clear the chat box while the on screen more subtitle features is through actual settings.

You can create a new chat tab with that '+' sign and set up for the npc chat only, so it not cluttering the main chat tab but you can switch to it when you want to see what they said.

You can do that on console? I've literally never seen a + sign on the chat box like that...

But I've also never had NPC comments show up in the chat box, so OP's description makes me think it's a bug introduced by our console update today. I'll have to test around with it myself when I get off work and can get in-game.

To everyone on PC, PS4 does not have an option for turning off/hidding chat boxes. It's all there- zone, say, yell, group, guild, npc... All static and unable to be toggled. Only option we have is to change the colors around, and that change is only for that character.

I'd like this to be fixed soon please, it's getting a bit much when people type for what they're farming for in a dungeon then pull a bunch of adds causing it to be cluttered

Console players (or ppl using the gamepad mode on PC) have no options to disable npcs subtitles from the chat window.

Console are 2nd class when it comes to options. Often forgotten and hardly ever mentioned and rarely ever considered. Such is the life of ESO for console players.

You would think that something like this could be easily fixed especially since it is already done on PC.

Console players should also have the option to turn off zone text chat.

We should also have a real ignore list of 100 players, not use the PSN block list of 20 players.
