Combat this patch is terrible. You can see by the many posts complaining about combat in the forums. If this is the new future of ESO there are alot of veteran players that will be dropping the game, myself included. I'm not entirely sure if I'm convinced this is about performance more so than trying to slow combat down for the new/worse players. I'm not sure why the devs feel the need to strip the skill cap in order to artificially raise the skill floor. Take away unique gameplay mechanics before fixing the everyday issues we face, Ele weapon and overload Desyncing for example. Since Overload got reworked its been incredibly buggy and nothing has been done. But we need a block change.
Cast times on Incap, Dawnbreaker, and 2h ult. Abysmal. The game has always been built and balanced around Open world PvP and End Game PvE and the ONLY answer's we've received about any of these changes have been made about performance or making things easier for bad players. What other games do that? The main draw of this game for PvP is open world. But somehow we have only been getting 1v1 balances. Adding counterplay to dawnbreaker? You mean making an ability not fire in lag because theres a 4ms cast time? How is someone fighting multiple people going to be able to see that coming anyways? It's painfully obvious that none of the devs play this game at a high level. Which is fine, but then you need to take the counsel of players that ARE playing at a high level. What do you keep the Class Reps around for anyways? Their input is very obviously not being heard because i guarantee that nobody said cast times on Dawnbreaker etc were a good idea. Combat in this game had so much promise. But now what are we looking at? The devs making abilities overly complicated because they feel like it should be harder to kill players. Which is making the game quite unfun. Stuns and CCs are still being removed or reworked from relevancy in the game, for PvP stuns are very important. How this isn't a well known fact i dont know, but the removal of stuns is streamlining builds and making all classes homogenized because the classes only have 1 or 2 options to build around now because of whats necessary for builds.
This block change actually needs to be reverted and only introduced again when the devs give us what was promised. Because right now you lose global cooldowns while fighting because you get stuck in animations, during certain animations if you are stunned while doing those it makes break free buggy. Theres reported problems with holding block and not blocking damage, Theres reports of block not working while silenced. There's a very large amount of abilities that have inconsistent timings before you are able to block. But the largest problem is actual block cancelling. Animation cancelling has been a tool for players that learn it to push the game's limits, It is very much a factor that sets the skilled players from the lesser skilled players. And its a large part in the fluidity in combat. Whether it be in PvP or PvE it's a relied upon mechanic and the devs messed up in releasing this new system so early. Which says that either the dev team isn't actually able to do their job, or Zenimax is pushing them to do something else instead of flushing out game mechanics.
