It was a feature they added in to alert players to things happening in the game. I don't know why they added it, don't think it can be disabled. It also lights up if a queue has popped. Its kinda handy but what effects it has on performance I have no idea.

They added it because people were asking for there to be added a function that gave some sort of notification if somethinf happened in game, such as a dungeon queue or BG popping, while they were tabbed out. No there isn't an option to turn it off though I'm ot sure why anyone would, it's straight up a notification that something is happening to your toon/account that you should probably be paying attention to. If you have no queues going and don't are about getting killed/people talking to you, just ignore it.

Yeah but I would like to see an option to disable it. Because that type of coding could have an impact players should be able to choose. I do like it because it does notify and its helpful for sure. So I would likely not disable it but I think players should have the option to do so. Thank you for clarification though.

The problem is that it doesn't work well. It lights up randomly and for things that it shouldn't -- like every loading screen, even if I was on that screen BEFORE tabbing out. For example, if I'm logging through my characters to feed horses, etc., I would expect that I tab out of ESO, and when I am back to character selection screen, it lights up to alert me. Instead ot lights up on the loading screen for the character selection screen, for no reason. At which point it serves me no purpose, because I can't actually trust it to be lighting up because I can do something/something happened. Basically any time I tab out it immediately lights up, I open the game back up, and there's nothing. That's why I personally find it to be just a nuisance right now.

In that case it's a bug because mine just lights up 0.5 seconds before character select shows, ie I guess it has registered the character select as being there but it takes a moment for it to actually show up. In which case this should be in the bug forum. Other than the minute delay when going back to character select I've experienced no situation where it "lights uo random" as you put it, ie without there being something you should pay attention to. Do you have any other examples or juat the popping back and forth to character select.

Given how it does it for anything, I figured it was just badly programmed rather than a bug. As I said, it's mostly loading screens. So also if I just accepted a queue for example. The loading screen comes immediately, but if I tab out it lights up (maybe because of the picture changing between normal and vet, since that is often delayed?). If I go back in and make it stop, then go back out, it'll light up again once I'm actually in the dungeon. But those are long loading screens, so it's not just a small delay. To me it seems like any minute change in the game makes it light up, rather than prioritised changes that actually interest the player.
I still think an option to turn it off would be nice, even if it was working correctly.

If you're tabbed out and have 1 monitor, sure, it's useful. I'm tabbed out and have two monitors, at all times I can see what is going on with my character and the flashing just annoys me, I already know what's happening to my character and choose to ignore it but on my second monitor the icon will flash relentlessly even though it's right in front of my face. I would really like a way to turn this off.

    Greetings,

We have closed this topic as it was originally created in March 2020. In many cases, it's better to create a new thread on a topic that you want to discuss as opposed to bumping one that is rather old.
