Heavy Weapons passive with Puncturing Sweeps is not working

Hey there everyone. Ever wonder what it would be like playing your magicka damage dealer with one of those really cool two-handed swords? Well, I have been enjoying the Draugrkin's grip set for the past week, and wanted to get some extra DOT ticks with it using a battle-axe. Unfortunately, the Heavy weapons passive (with works very well with draugrkin) does not proc on the Puncturing Sweeps passive of two-handed weapons nor dual wielding. But of course the stamina version of the same melee ability is able to proc Heavy Weapons works just fine. I realize this won't bother 99.99% of the playerbase, but if I could get another guarnteed proc of a fast ticking dot for Draugrkin, that would be awesome to test out.
PS: I also just want an excuse to use the Valkyn Skoria two handed sword motif on my magicka templar without it costing me too much DPS.

So what I'm getting from this is that the Heavy Weapons passive, which procs based on direct damage, is proccing off of Jabs but not Sweeps? If so that seems wrong; despite how messy Jabs/Sweeps have been in the past regarding procs, they should at least be equal.

Interesting, I always assumed that the 2H passives were as restrictive as the DW passives, which often have the stipulation "While using DW attacks" which makes them useless for Magicka builds. But it does appear that the 2H passives do not have this restriction and should, I guess, actually work the way you say.

That said, don't use a 2H Axe if you want to use a 2H on a Magicka character. Use a Sword instead. That 6% extra damage is noticeable and will give you way more damage than a Bleed effect that uses your lowly Physical stats for Penetration and Critical Chance.

If you want to switch to DW you can have even more fun with melee weapons and you can use the Nirnhoned/Precise combo (if PvE) for wicked high Spell Damage and abilities that hit like freight trains. The downside is, of course, that your Light Attacks will hit like a noodle, but that would be even more true using a 2H.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but magicka abilities are not, and never were, considered melee?

That may be the case, however melee should be defined by the range of an ability, not the stat that affects its damage.

I'm sorry if I was unclear. Heavy Weapons procs off of "melee damage." Direct and indirect damage, as long as it is a melee range ability, is supposed to proc it according to the tooltip.

The whole reason I want to try out a 2H Axe as opposed to other 2H weapons is for the Heavy Weapons bleed synergizing with Draugrkin's Grip armor set. The set increases all damage sources by an additional 617, regardless of their starting value. If Punctering Sweeps proc'ed this passive correctly as the tooltip suggests, then I could cause the bleed to proc during Draugrkin's uptime, adding on about 3,700 extra damage. I don't expect it to be ground-breaking as far as new builds go, but I would like to see consistency with tooltips.

There are a handful of magicka abilities that are clearly melee, the type of damage should have nothing to do with range vs melee. I mean, DK whip, y'know.

Yeah despite readig up on it I somehow managed to confuse it with the monster set. Stupid brain moment, sorry. IMO your point still stands, as Jabs and Sweeps both have the same range, and you certainly have to be meelee to hit with Sweeps. They should both follow the same rules!
