This game is an unplayable mess

I have been playing this game for about a year or so, with breaks. Throughout my playtime this game has been a constant [snip] riddled with performance issues, lag, disconnections. And every time ZOS has only one thing to say “we are aware of the issue and are working on it”. There literally hadn’t been a month when the game was constantly stable. I recently came back to the game to try playing it once more, because behind all the issues there’s a beautiful game with awesome story, quests, dungeons, trials. I played normally for one day, bought eso+ again. But on the next day I was greeted with a new patch, which made my game lag spike to 999+ ping and freeze me in place. Also login issues and crashes. I also played WoW and despite some issues with the game it has silky smooth connection ( for me at least ). So all in all this game is an unplayable mess and I doubt that anything will change since the game has been out for almost 6 years. Thanks ZOS I wasted another 15$ on your “wonderful” game!

game crushig on high end computers every day and he playing nice on 2010 ' laptop :) is this a chesse ?

Just yesterday i was on last boss in Harrowstorm Icereach DLC dung and game client crush and game kick me out to desktop :P

I have a gaming laptop from last year that plays the game without any issues, so he isn’t a troll.
But nice bait, you should know that’s against forum rules.

I play on a 7 year old gaming laptop and I, also, do not have the issues others are having. Anytime someone says they don't have issues, they get called a troll or a liar. There are many factors involved in how the game runs on each individual PC so people really should stop with the insults.

This game doesn’t even have multi core support. That’s why high end pc’s don’t perform much better than grandma’s laptops. There is no reason for ZOS to spend money on getting new server, optimizing their game, while people spend money in crown store and buy subscription. Most of the games improve their performance over time and get better, while this game just gets worse. Do you remember the autumn undaunted festival mess? They had to cancel the event. Such things shouldn’t happen when you had 5 fu*king years to fix your game.

Aye, also having no issues here, though I don't go to Cyro - which I'm guessing is the main issue at the moment. I hope it's fixed for those people affected soon, but it doesn't mean that those without issues are liars. Neither does it mean that the people with issues are liars. Nor does it mean that the entire game is unplayable for everyone. Nor does it mean that ZOS isn't trying to figure out how to fix it. Just too much toxicity here.

Nor does it mean that the entire game is unplayable for anyone. Some parts of the game are effectively unplayable for some players. ZOS are working on fixing the issues resulting from the recent update and have stepped up their level of communication over it which is to be applauded rather than thrown back in their face.

Personally if my machines were overclocked and having stability issues running a game then I'd look at the overclocking first and foremost. That's not to say that it's the cause, or at least the only cause, of the issues and clearly there are things that are being worked on server-side, but it might be one of the areas where players can reduce the severity of such issues.

I don't get these people that have never had any issues in the game. Are they decorating houses and harvesting nodes in Gold Coast during their play time? Or they have an extremely short memory. I find it extremely hard to believe that they have had no issues. Came to this game from WoW with 3 friends, I'm the last one standing. Everyone of them left due to the bugs/crashes/lag, etc etc. We all live in different states and have different PC setups. I feel like some of these people that post are interns at ZOS. I too have just hit my year mark, became so frustrated, that I unsubbed in Jan but I missed the game and came back Feb. I want this game to succeed and yes I might go a few days playing 2 hours or so a day and not run into any issues. When the game works, it's the greatest thing ever but those working moments seem to be getting less and less.

    I'm glad for you. Truly.

But what you're saying in no way, shape, or form means everyone has had your experience, nor does it negate anyone else's issues.
    Count yourself lucky.

If you don't understand, maybe the best thing to do is not put your 2 cents in? Unless you're just low key bragging.
Because it's always good to talk about something you admit you don't understand, right?

I’m not sure why one person’s apocryphal data is any more or less valid than another person’s apocryphal data. Maybe if you don’t understand that...

I play the game, I don’t have the same issues OP does. I have different issues. I would argue the game clearly isn’t ‘unplayable’ because millions of people are playing it.

Until they make Champion Points unlock different assortments of upper level skills that focus either on stamina, hp, or magica and can be accessed by any class.. rather than giving us little power ups here and there that bog down the game....
And never fixing the problem with break free twice glitch...all I can say is this...

It more than likely the dismissive tone of some of the posts. The idea that if you're having issues you must have a potato for a computer is ridiculous.

No, the entire game is certainly not unplayable. Much can be played with only minor or visual bugs, but the current issues are very disruptive.

I'm glad that it works for y'all. As someone said in another thread "I pay for this and this is not the experience that I want..."

Maybe ZOS should setup low end to high end machines off site on a crappy ISP like SuddenStink some 8 hrs away and do some testing. I have Suddenlink in far west Texas and get a connection of 30 ms to Dallas,TX. 15mb down and 1.5 mb up. So, connecting to Dallas is ok thru a vpn but after hitting the eso server, it goes to about 100 ms on average. While doing overland content, wayshrines, dungeons, etc I’ll get continuous spikes between 300 to 15000 ms. I’ve called my isp and they did a line test to see what I was doing for about 30 mins and said everything was ok on the line. So, what is it then?

This problem existed for about a year for me and is still there after the patch. It has to be some code that was introduced in a patch last year and is still being used. Something that calls/updates/polling data ie items, location, people in or out of zones is having an affect on player connections. I would suggest that ZOS look at a few players that are having these issues and monitor the pings, disconnects, lag while doing any activity to determine where the problem is at. Just a thought.

No, they/we are playing the game fully except that in most - but not all - cases that excludes PvP which is really the main focus of performance issues along with some lesser issues with e.g. trials and group dungeons (which I don't do either). In my case I don't use add-ons or belong to any guilds and those may be factors behind my smooth performance since PC launch along with my running a clean desktop with just the game running and no browser windows or other stuff going on aside from MSE. I don't use any form of wireless connection on any of my equipment and I don't share my internet connection so I don't struggle because the family is streaming Netflix etc while I'm playing. The only time I do get some lag is if I'm playing ESO on one desktop while patching it or downloading something else on my other desktop - so I do know that these things make a difference.

If you take out the PvP performance issues (especially in relation to Cyrodiil) then comparing this forum to many others I'd say that performance is pretty comparable to most games with some issues reported by those who frequent the forums (always a very small proportion of the total playerbase as most just get on and play the game quite happily) but nothing too exceptional - if you exclude the PvP issues.

Even then, the fact remains that the population continues to grow, and crowded places like dolmens and delves seem to function normally for all the players I see in those areas, including in events such as the current Murkmire one where I've done a load of questing, delves and world boss mobs without any lag or disconnections.

On the subject of the population, some were quick to claim the game was dying just a few months ago when the monthly peak players on Steam fell briefly to around 19K and they deemed that representative of the fate of the game as a whole. They seem to have gone very quiet now that the latest figures show the peak back up to almost 31K.

Server stability and optimization are the staple of any online game. ZOS doesn’t understand that and instead of heavily focusing on fixing servers and game optimization they keep pumping content, adding to crown shop, changing game class balance and all that. Instead they should do something like R6 Siege “Operation Health” and fix this damn game so we can finally play it without issues.
