Do you think cross-save, cross-play, or even account transferring is being looked at?

It's definitely something I see a vast majority of the community want implemented. Whether it be cross-saving, cross-playing with other platforms, or even getting a single chance to transfer your account onto another platform, I'm curious if y'all think ZeniMax is even putting in thought into doing any of these. And I'm not talking about that stadia "cross-play" with PC/Mac. I'm talking full on console and PC. I clearly remember reading in an article a while back that cross-platform was not on "the roadmap" for Elder Scrolls Online, have no idea if that's changed any time recently. ZeniMax is clearly aware of what the player base wants, however, are they actually doing anything in response? I want to know your thoughts and opinions on the matter, and if anyone has any information they'd like to share on this topic. A couple years back I would've thought cross-playing/cross-saving/account transferring would've been stupid, however times have changed, it's 2020 people! New games keep getting pushed out supporting these options from the gecko or have it implemented after the fact (i.e. Modern Warfare, Fortnite, Destiny 2, Rocket League, Minecraft, etc.) Elder Scrolls Online is a phenomenal game, one of the best, if not the BEST MMO I've ever played. I truly believe being able to implement any of these features would be a huge stepping-stone for ESO. Whether they work on it or not, completely up to them. So once again I ask you, the player, what do you think?

Consoles don't have access to addons so that alone is probably enough to not see this happen. When they allowed players to transfer from PC to console after the game came out for consoles they said it was a one time thing.

This game wasn't designed with cross play in mind and I doubt it would be worth their time to try and make it happen if it is even possible.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

No its not being looked at.
The devs have said those are things they are not planning on implementing at least for the forseeable future.

They have stated many times that they wont risk the potential database errors to transfer accounts across platforms.
The only reason they were able to do it when consoles opened was because the databases were empty and there was no potential for errors.

As Kargen said, cross play would put console players at a huge disadvantage because PC has addon capability

Well I’m going to disagree with you there.

The vast majority of players only play one platform. They are entirely uninterested in cross-platform play. It has zero benefit to them. They would be vastly disappointed if ZOS were diverting resources to this instead of developing content and improving the game.

They'd have to resolve how to merge collections onto the same platform if someone had account on multiple platforms; as well as Consoles not having Addons trying to play with PC that has Addons.
Not impossible but a lot of people will be unhappy with how they do it, no matter what.

Not to mention resolve shared character or account names, and people would definitely not be happy over that either!

I'm sure they could make a work around. Instead of trying to copy the file directly. They could make a program that records certain data the character made. Achievements, skills, class etc.

Then input that into a blank character. You'd probably lose your most housing furnishings, and it would be a one way trip.

But if ZoS knew how much money they could make, I'm sure they would look into it.

What kind of additional revenue do you imagine ZOS making?

I don’t see it generating significant new revenue at all. I do see it costing serious money to even begin to implement.

It’s the sort of thing that could be plugged in to the initial specifications for a new game, but will be horrendous to reverse engineer into an existing one. And for very little additional value to either most players or ZOS.

If I were ZOS I’d be spending way more time developing the game as it is and preparing for the next generation of consoles, than bothering with things like this.

Crossplay of Stadia and PC/Mac has been looked at as Zos said Stadia will play on PC/Mac servers. They have not made a decision of cross-save will be available for the Stadia.

As for consoles and PC/Mac Cross-play would not be a good idea as PC/Mac has access to addons consoles do not have. Heck, Consoles just recently got their first Godslayer this week. I am sure they are great players and it shows the difference addons can make. Heck, just knowing what the group is doing from the new group parse system helps refine and improve the group as a whole.

As for account copies, in 2014 Zos was pretty firm they had no interest in it and has not felt the need to address the situation since. So doubtful that will happen.

When you play PC gamepad with few to no addons and recognize that you have a hard time competing. It is a different world with block and roll-dodge on the left trigger and the ultimates on two buttons. It could make sense to move to a console or just a dedicated server where PC and consoles play gamepad only.

Umm, a skilled player is acting on what they see vs a message from an addon for when to roll-dodge. An add-on cannot be precise enough to time dodge roll correctly. BTW, the controller is irrelevant to the discussion unless you are trying to suggest PC/Mac has a superior design.

It is just as unlikely that Zos would take add-ons away from PC/Mac players as it would they will open up a couple more servers for cross-play.

You got me wrong there. It wasnt about PvP addons. It is just that many play PC for the addons and i am not.

The controller means something if it is the motivation to have a server transfer to console or cross playing with other gamepad users.

Who is the "vast majority"? I play on pc. The last console I had was, iirc, SNES. I remember when this game was first announced; it was pc only, and sub only. I really regret ZOS caved to Sony and agreed to do a console version. It took more than a year before a console version was in releasable condition, while the game still had a mandatory sub, and very little new content for the pc players while they worked on the console versions. Seeing the constant issues in the forums from xbox and ps4 players, I really can't understand why they ever bothered with console versions. And you think cross platform play would work? With the problems that are still occurring with all of the platforms? No, thank you.

    Issues to be resolved first:
    A. Server issues at peak population - while PC/EU has gotten better from last year's low points with broken events and login queues, ESO still struggles to handle large numbers of players on the same platform at the same time.
    Cross-Play adds more players.

    B. Database Conflicts - Both Cross-Save and Cross-Play require ZOS to create a new method of transfer that also resolves conflicts in account and character names.

    C. Addons - unless Console companies allow add-ons or ZOS removes or seriously restricts addons for PC, this is going to be a major issue. For the first time, Console and PC players would directly interact, and under the status quo, PC and PC-to-console crossplay players would have a significant advantage in trading, QOL, and combat over console-only players.

Cross-play, cross-save or regular account transferring has nothing to do with merging serves at the end of the line. Especially since this end of the line is nowhere to be seen yet and because there are no servers they can feasibly merge outside of PS4 EU with Xbox EU and PS4 NA with Xbox NA.

As a PC player I don't care about either of those.

Setting aside the absurdity of even discussing such a thing as the game continues to reach new population peaks, and ignoring all of the very sound technical reasons that have already been stated in this and many other threads:

Many play PC because they play on PC. On top of that many top console, players switched to PC for more competitive PvE play. A top player does not need an addon to tell them when to dodge roll. They pay attention and react after based on what they observe in-game.

At that, the controller is and should not be a contributing factor to cross-play. If Zos were to consider cross-play between PC and consoles they are not going to care if a controller is used or not. We know this as fact since Zos has created a separate interface for Stadia that permits play on a tablet or even a smartphone.

    Complete nonsense.

Occasionally a player will post such a request and get two or three others supporting it, generally because they want to transfer servers or platforms without having to start over, while the "vast majority" of contributors to their threads oppose it because it is of no interest to them, would create a grossly unfair contest in PvP between those with add-ons and those without, and it would divert scarce development resources away from far more pressing issues.

This thread looks thus far like going the same way.

One of the main advantages of megaservers is that they don't need to be added to or merged as the game's success grows or fades, all necessary adjustments are managed behind the scene through expansion/contraction of the individual servers and instances that make up the megaservers, with no direct impact on players.
