Not that I enjoy people feeling bad trying to do play a game they used to enjoy, but I hope others have the same feeling here. If more people would begin to realize these events are being made to frustrate to extort money from players, and if more people would simply log out and avoid anything that would benefit ZOS’ profits. then maybe it would change.

Or maybe ZOS will do what they’ve historically done and just make their monetization even more sketchy. That seems to be their goal lately, full milk-mode.

It’s about time to let this game die to be honest. The company has absolutely no respect for its player.

I don't think the game needs to die. The parent company needs to just step in and remove and replace the current management team. Usually a move like this on its own can bring hope back to people and if put out there, could cause a lot of people to come back.
I would say a very large percentage of people left this game not because of the game - they love it - but because of the direction this game has taken due to the decisions the management team have made

I admire your optimism, but the parent company is almost always the one spearheading the player-hostile gimmicks and training their employees how to make use of them.

normally i would say yes, but you would be surprised how detached a private company can be compared to a public. I am an accountant and have been working as a finance manager/controller in a national company for 25+ years. Private companies in many cases will look at financial reports, see that it makes money and steps back. What has to be done is to show that yes, the game is successful but its not reaching its full potential.

in my opinion, if correctly managed and maybe new ideas put in - it is getting a bit stale - this game should be making double the amount it is now by adding significantly more subscribers and players. And to be honest, it woudn't even take much. There are so many common sense, easy changes that could be made that would make a massive difference to the player base and profits.

Currently, as it is, they are tossing away a stupid amount of money on things that players would have no problem paying for, and instead are putting their focus towards nickle and dimeing everyone which just makes people leave and feel disrespected.

No. They know that the majority is stupid.

Jumped on this morning around the same time as I did yesterday and the crowd waiting for a WB spawn was not even 1/10th of what it was the day before (There was very large crowds at both WBs on the first day). Its possible I was in a holdover server but I think the experiences players had yesterday left a real sour taste in their mouths. A lot of people were not very well informed about the strongbox drops and after people started to share the fact that they would not be dropping regularly a large portion of those players left the zone almost immediately yesterday morning.

As we go into the weekend itll give us a better picture of whether or not this event will be successful. But right now its looking as if the players aren't coming out.

I have very little doubt about that. The problem is that enough of those who are disgruntled by the even went to the Crown Store and bought the tickets because the really-really want that pet/memento/to collect everything. And that's where it has all gone wrong.

I'm just there for the motifs. I'll just use this event to have a head start on tickets for the next.

ZOS is just gonna have to learn the hard way that RNG inside of RNG and obvious tactics to try and get us to spend money are going to bite them in the end. This is something I'd expect from a F2P pos that needs to generate revenue by extorting it's player base, not something from a game I have paid for and have a sub for. Events should be an opportunity for everyone to have fun and get some free fluff, not a means of trying to trigger completionists into spending some real cash to get that fluff. Even the 39 possible tickets for events where everything costs either 5 or 10 tickets, with an inventory hard cap of 12 (and no way of preventing ourselves from losing any tickets if we earn them while at the cap) is carefully designed to make us have to pay for more tickets for those things we may really want.

Personally, the completionist in me wants everything from an event, but the sense of self respect and dignity, that sees how they are obviously trying to play me and other completionists refuses to debase myself and give into such things. As I said, these events should be fun, and a way to earn free fluff. Forcing me to spend more in a game I already spend money in to get that free fluff feels like a violation of the agreement I thought I was entering into when I first bought this game. I will go in and earn my daily tickets and box, maybe spend a little extra time on dailies for motifs and whatnot, and at the end of the event if I have gotten enough fragments, and was lucky enough to buy the right fragments when I am forced to unload tickets, that I can then use the remaining tickets I have to get one of the free things I will. If I don't, so be it. I'm not going to reward their slimy and underhanded attempt to force me to.

It would not surprise me if F2P is in the future for ESO and ZOS is taking the long road and incrementally getting there. They have a business plan. They are not making things up as they go. I can certainly see where a long range plan would lead there. Deliberately.

Completely F2P P2W games like Neverwinter Online (and of course clone games in the manner of League of Angels) at least don't try to hide it so you go into the game knowing exactly how it works and you choose to accept it or not.
Here, the "small chance" of additional boxes might as well be zero. People who get them sound about as rare as lottery jackpot winners.

A cash shop model of cosmetics and such CAN work. A model of mixed event and cash stop can also work, such as in FFXIV.
But when a company wants to radically change direction, transparency is better than trying to be sneaky.

The drop rate is so low that it's not worth the time or effort. The only way it's worth your time is if you have a character that you need to level up anyway.

Yup, it's what I'm doing, leveling up a character.

It might be working in their favor or it might not. Its a bit difficult to figure out who is spending and who isn't. My guess is we won't know for sure unless future events follows this one in the way they are operated.

Where the f is the pride in something that’s completely random?

Exactly! It's amazing that players feel a sense of accomplishment after grinding for hours and finally geting an RNG box. Someone else could have gotten the same amount or more in much less time. 'Cuz guess what - it's random.

Somehow, ZOS has convinced players that grinding for something for hours on end to finally get a drop is accomplishing something, LOL. Well, I suppose it's accomplishing the ability to endure monotony and pointlessness for some cosmetic fluff.

I've been doing dailies in Murkmire for months now, hoping to complete the motifs that drop there. Went yesterday, got very lucky to get tickets and the golden box on my first kill...and that was were my luck ended - no fragments in the box.

I decided to loot all containers I could in the (vain) hope that a Murkmire furnishing plan would drop. I collected every nod I came across, killed everything I could and plucked every Scuddlebloom I found and got a big bunch of nothing.

I logged off, went about my day and logged back in the evening again. I thought about trying my luck in Murkmire again, but chose against it. Instead I went to CWC where I got 2 green plans, 1 blue, a purple - all of them CWC - and around 10k from fencing stolen items.

It did give me a sense of accomplishment, and a huge sense of relief as I got rid of the goal to get the pet. I think I'll go steal from Khajiit or Dark Elves today.

CWC is the best region for getting quality loot that drops with any 'regularity' that makes it worth it. Its my favorite zone to go stealing in. The main town is just full of containers and boxes and so easy to pick from.

You can go steal from the rest of the races; but CWC still has a higher than average drop rate for 'good' stuff (as in either valuable to sell or keep).

As for me - I've not even started the event yet. Glad to read I won't have to spend long before returning to regular activities even with the RNG on the tickets. Cuz I won't be trying to keep farming for more boxes for sure.

I agree both on the regularity and being one of my favorite zones to steal from. Vvardenfell for me feels similar.

Mind you I don't have all the plans from CWC or Morrowind yet, but there is just enough incentive for me to keep on going back to both zones, which is something I've been doing for more than a year now.

Murkmire OTOH, was wonky (for lack of a better word) from the get go. While doing the content in there I did get some drops, many of them very good quality, then it completely stopped. I remember thinking that it was odd getting two plans from one looted container, but thought it had to do with the small quantity of lootable containers in the zone.

As I progressed through the story the loot diminished and then completely stopped, so at some point I stopped looking because there was no point in doing so. Once I was done questing there I took a long hiatus and only went back because I want to complete the motifs.

I think that's the part that the devs are failing to understand. If there are no drops in a zone, there is no reason to go back after the quests are done and/or we collect all the skill points available. I don't want the loot to be easier/more abundant, I just want some consistency - or in other words, if the devs want me to follow along, there needs to be a carrot at the end of the stick.

ETA: I haven't logged in yet today. Balance from yesterday: 3 tickets, one golden box, no fragments. I checked fewer containers and got the same result as the first day - nothing. I also spent way less time there. Went to Vvardenfell where I got a Buoyant Armiger motif page. I think the game is trying to tell me something...

Indeed! And if anyone here has received a second box or even a box with a fragment in it, I want to rub their hands for luck :D

    (Uncertainly extends his hand...)

    Day 1:
    - No box on EU, but I played for only 10 minutes and switched to NA as soon as I got my tickets.
    - 1st box on NA alongside my tickets, but no fragment, motif, or style mat, just gear. Didn't try for a 2nd box.

    Day 2:
    - 1st box on EU alongside my tickets, with 1 fragment plus gear. Haven't tried for a 2nd box yet.
    - 1st box on NA alongside my tickets, same fragment as on EU, plus gear. Found a 2nd box later, with a style mat plus gear.

That's close enough, hold out those puddies for a big rubbing!

Oh my god thank you for this. Puddies is a new one for me and it’s now my favorite thing of the day.
