Did ZOS just make up my mind for me?

I've been with the game since launch...except one time when my membership lapsed after a credit card change I did not keep up with. At that time I was busily checking out FO 76. But...I came back when I noticed and have been playing ESO since. I have not yet pre-order Greymoor and have been debating whether to do so or even whether to continue to subscribe. Real life issues have impacted my play time and I have explored other games. On top of that all the balancing and such have left me feeling a bit disenchanted with the experience lately.

So today I hopped on to do my daily crafting writs and items from my mail went into my inventory. I looked and did not see the note saying I had ESO plus any longer. Weird...I'm on the recurring billing as I have always been. So I looked at my account and saw that the billing did not process yesterday as it should have citing:

"We were unable to process the payment for your subscription to The Elder Scrolls Online. Without an active subscription, you won't be able to continue your adventure!"

Now I have not changed my membership nor edited my billing. Went through fine last month. I go to manage membership and it asks me to reset up my re-occurring billing. Double checked my credit card statement....no holds shown and I even had a few charges clear for other things afterwards.

I now am mulling whether to subscribe or not. No clue why the payment was not processed but this may be fate grabbing me by the wrist and leading me which way to go. Currently I don't see a better MMO out there...I see some that are slightly different but not for me better. Its likely a billing glitch that would be remedied by re-upping....but I guess the question is should I?

Without the ESO+ sub, you don't get shut out, but your experience will just gradually degrade. You can pull things from the craft bag, but not put anything in it. The same with the extra bank capacity, or housing slots. So you can let it go for a while, and see what makes you want to re-up. If nothing does, you have your answer.

    Pretty much this.

However, if you are having to come to the forums because you cannot make up your own mind I suggest that is telling you it is time to move on or at least take a break. Clearly, you are questioning if you actually enjoy the game these days or creating this thread would not have crossed your mind.

You should not resub, and to avoid future temptation you transfer any valuable items to someone else.

    I can haz ur stuff?

If you feel its worth paying for and can afford it then pay. If you feel it is a bad deal or you can not afford it then don't.

If you think you may some day just stop logging in but currently want ESO+ and can afford it, sub, then immediately unsub so you can safely forget about it.

You should check the expiration date on your card to make sure it didn't renew between last billing and current (attempted) billing, because if they still have the old expiration date on file then that might be the problem, you might just need to verify and update your information-- even if the card number is unchanged, they'll need to have the new expiration date on file.

Everyone has experiences and I think everyone, regardless of their experience, should be validated and allowed to share when asked. We all walk different paths where even our same situations are experienced differently as we are all come to different formulations, as unique individuals. There is no shame in this.

Kudos to OP for seeking advocacy, there is no 'wrong' way in doing it, it's ultimately your choice! :)
Having feelings of ambivalence on your decision (assuming that being the possibility as to why you're here) will change in due time when you feel ready.

Didn't the website go down yesterday? You might not want to jump to conclusions based on why your payment did not go through.

    Thanks.

And who the frak are you, that I should listen to you without any explanation?
(not that an explanation from John Rando is worth anything, anyway.)

Yes, and it was down for at least several hours.
